I have an early Marlin '94 .32-20 rifle that needs a new hammer (mainspring). This is an early gun that has the flat spring, not the newer coil spring. I can't locate for fine one anywhere, Numrich has the wire / coil spring replacement, but I've heard mixed results on those.

I had the wire spring in my old marlin 93. I had to gouge out metal in my marlin to get it to fit. Once I finally got it in place the double wire left only a couple threads on the securing screw. Its a bad part. Although, it worked. I bought annealed spring steel from brownells and made my own flat spring, hardening and tempering it. It is still working

I got this image from the Numrich website. It states that it is usable in many old Marlin models. But, of course, none in stock.

It's a pretty simple spring, so a gunsmith might be able to make one that would work, or you might be able to find a similar one for a Winchester or some such that could be ground to fit.
