lee crimp die 9mm

looking at a lee carbide crimp die for 9mm. i don't want to "crimp". but, i do want a taper crimp. will this die do that?

For all straight wall cases, I'm a big taper crimp fan.

I may not be 'up' on all the new things.
I'm not familiar with a carbide crimp die, are ya sure its not just part of a die set that has a carbide sizer die?

Yes, the LFC die for 9mm is a taper crimp die. I put a light taper crimp on all of my semi auto straight wall pistol cartridges with the Lee FCD. It is an addition that I like, others don't believe it is neccessary for them. To each his own, it may not be neccessary but it's a die I like to use.

They are pretty slick. Like how they have a screw adjustment for the crimp as opposed to raising or lowering the whole die body. Lee's factory crimp dies for .44 and .38 are roll crimp type with the same screw adjustment. Makes dialing in the crimp a snap.

That is one of the reasons I have switched to them on my pistol dies very simple and quick to setup or adjust on a turret or progressive .

Lee also makes a standard 9mm taper crimp that functions like most other taper crimp dies. It costs about $13.00.

I bought Carbide 4 die sets in .44 and .357 so I didn't have to adjust for mags/ specials. Once I used those crimp dies I bought a carbide one for 9mm.

I have them for 9MM, 45 ACP, 44 Special and 357 Mag. I use Brian Pierce's suggestion to use a factory round and screw it down. Then remove the factory round and turn it down a quarter turn to account for spring back when you crimp your hand loads. Works for me.

I set my turrets up for 9mm and .38spl with lee carbide full size, expand, and seat dies, but just never liked the LFC die and use a regular taper crimp die instead. It's all good if it works good. :)

The OP is describing a Lee Factory Crimp Die , it's the only crimp die that has a carbide ring in the base ... it's not the standard crimp die that comes in a standard 9mm luger set of dies .

I never saw the need for the Factory Crimp Die ...just use the crimp die in your set .

newguys sometimes aren't up on the terminology of what they have .

It has a carbide ring for the handgun calibers I have used it for. Some folks using cast bullets think the FCD die over crimps lead bullets but it can generally be eased out enough to avoid roll crimping an auto round to "far down". You are correct that some die sets only have a carbide decapper and claim the entire set are carbide dies. Hey it is part of the "industry" terminology pervasive today - what are you going to do but live with it.
