Went out this morning with an old Win 94 30-30 rifle that I traded for. My daughter and I loaded up several dozen Lee 170 cast on top of some H335. Zeroed in the rifle a few days ago. Sitting over the Creek bottom this morning I caught a glimpse coming down the far hill. Two bucks were sparring all the way down the hill. One was much smaller and really taking a whooping. Ranged at 125 and I fired in the bigger of the two. No response they just kept pushing and shoving each other. Thinking I missed I fired again, same response. Well this time the bucks closed the distance and was now 100yds still sparring. The smaller was in clear view so I held on the front shoulder and let the little carbine bark. This time the smaller buck dropped and the big buck started rolling him around on the ground, snorting and grunting the whole time. I topped my rifle back off and looked to see the bigger buck fall stone cold dead. He’d been hit twice and never flinched, just kept fighting until he fell over dead. Craziest thing I’ve ever seen! 272005272006

That's a hunt you will never forget!

I've never been fortunate enough to see two bucks going at it.

Let us know how they taste, being all riled up before the kill.

She's been every morning and afternoon since. Seen several does, but she says she still has a buck tag to fill first.

I, too, am interested. I’ve always assumed that the adrenaline & such must matter. But, some people dog hunt, and seem to enjoy the venison.

I’m curious to know if you can taste anything.

That is one good hunt for you and your kid. You both will be shear that now. For how some of the deer are when they are pumped up ,for what they can take before they do drop. Like that story . Thank you

i once shot a whitetail at about 60 yards behind the shoulder...he didnt move so i thought i had missed, i shot again and he keeled over. later butchering it there was two holes about an inch apart, go figure.

Good evening and a double Congratulations !
Very interesting tale. I do know when a buck has a goal in mind they are persistent in seeing it through

A good friend did something similar years back. A bull moose walked out of a spruce wall at 120 yds. Just his head and shoulders showing. He shoot him just behind the shoulder with a 250gr 338 win mag. Nothing happened aimed and shot again nothing! Waited about a minute and shot again! Reloaded his rifle and was aiming again could see just a small trickle of blood right where he had been shooting for! Flop the bull dropped. When we skined the bull we found Three holes in about a 2” group. Strange stuff happens!
