View Full Version : Required reading? Other than the "Number 1 Buckshot, the Number 1 Choice"?

I've read on here many times that .300 or .310 is the 'optimal' size for buckshot, and have seen references to the IWBA recommendation.

I finally located a copy of IWBA Vol2, No. 4 with the Gus Cotey, Jr. paper in it. The "Number 1 Buckshot, the Number 1 Choice". It's an interesting read, and appeals to the gun-geek side of me much more than some of the often repeated mantras. (i.e. "Inside your living room, it won't matter what size you use" or "00 has been filling my freezer for 40 years, so 00 is good enough for...."). Both statements are probably inarguably true, but they are dismissive and dogmatic.

Does anyone have any recommendations for similar reading?

Have you read the Lyman shotshell handbook 5th edition? It was informative to me, having no experience loading shotgun.

What is BPI 3rd and 4th? I'm interested to find more info on shotshell loading.
