Got an old ch press!

Been helping a few friends get started in reloading, finding equipment for them, loaning manuals, helping with setup, and looking over loads for sanity checks, etc. One of the guys is getting started in 224 valkrie for his ar15. I let him try out my Lee turret press, explained to him how to set up a single stage press, talked on press and off press priming. He calls me up couple days ago to beg a few primers since they are impossible to find here. When he comes over to get primers, he sets this cute little red single stage on my table. "Though you might like this" he says. I ask him how much and where it came from. He says, " I figured you could have it for all the help getting started reloading". I was floored. It is a cool press with a 30-06 shell holder. I think I might use it for swaging pistol bullets.

I'm a big fan of ch stuff. They still build things like people used to 60-70 years ago. They make a certain green brand look like a certain red brand

Strip and repaint is in its future for sure. Anybody know if these shell holders are the same thickness to the die as rcbs or Lee, or is it a ch die only game? This seems to be a very high quality press, and other than the paint, to be in good shape. I needed a single stage, glad this little guy showed up...

Since its not a compound linkage, it probably won't swage too well.
But certainly try it. :)
Looks like a nice press.

I'm pretty sure that CH takes "standard" shell holders, so rcbs/lyman/lee/redding should work fine.

I love old reloading presses and one seems to follow me home way more often than it should.

Any "H" type shellholder will work, and they are all different heights. Adapters for snap-in's are also available.

CH is still in business as CH4D . They might have shell holders and any extra parts you might need like priming arm . www.ch4d.com
David and wife Dawna Davison are good people and a pleasure to do business with .
They helped me get 3 old presses up and running with parts ... a Pacific , a Lyman A-A Turret and a Eagle Cobra 300 ... not one was a CH but they had parts and/or adapters to get all of them operational again .
Pressman can tell you everything you want to know about your CH ... I hope he writes a book one day .

That is a good idea! I have a very close friend who has a powdercoat oven that is in regular commercial use. I may tear it down and have him shoot and bake it for me...

Just throwing this out there...I've got the sister to yours, and in a pretty comprehensive test, mine will produce low bullet run out ammo just as good as my Forster Co-ax.

I have the same press but with three stations. It works well.

I am currently beginning to try to thin my press holdings, but I would make a space somewhere on my benches for that one. It’s a keeper for sure and a true classic. Also, it’s about bomb proof... you should be able to keep in good shape to pass on to you grandchildren. Your friend did you a real solid.

C&H has a shell holder that adapts any shell holder to the press that they use for their presses, that will work on that one.

You can't wear that one out, but I would take it apart and repaint the parts and clean it up before using it.

It doesn't have enough mechanical advantage to swage boolits, but it can be used just like any other single stage press, You could do single operations like de-priming or priming or it would excel at loading pistol ammo.

I've been looking for one of those for a long time. I have the 4 station version and it is one of my favorites.
