I just bought an antique gun that I think takes 8.15x46R cartridges. Is it possible to paper patch a 30 cal boolit to a diameter, that would shoot reasonably before I buy a specific mould for it?

Yes on both. I had one of those a long time ago. The Lyman mould is likely out of print but Accurate will do them, with the neck seating band too...

Please tell me more about the neck seating band.

What would be the best weight boolit for target shooting?

just go and buy a Lee's 8mm 175gr bullet mold for like $30 and size it down from .323 to .321 and then work from there.

For my .303, starting with a .310" boolit, 2 wraps of old-time green bar printer paper brings it to about .320", which fits my throat. (This .303 is pretty old, and worn quite a bit.) :)

Your details will differ, but if you've already got the .30 cal boolits, it wouldn't hurt to try.

I’ve been finding out a lot about this boolit. First it’s called a stop ring boolit. It was designed for target shooting. Reloading was done at the range and the ring was to keep the boolit from going too deep in the case, so no resizing the case or crimping needed. Only tools used were to de-prime and prime. The same cases were reused over and over. It’s kind of interesting I think and hope to have a custom mold made for it. For the time being, I have ordered a Lee 8mm mold that should work in the beginning. Here is the boolit proposed by Accuate.

I hope I can attach a picture of the original boolit here. I haven’t had much luck so far.
