I had a dear old friend pass away a couple of months ago. He was the big brother I never had. We both loved old .22's, military rifles, and general shooting fun.
We could talk handloading and casting for hours, and enjoyed working up loads and forming brass for weird calibers.
These two pistols were listed in his will for me. They are Cimarron reproductions of Colt 1851 Navy revolvers, with the Richards-Mason conversion to 38spl. Consecutive serial numbers.
I don't believe my friend ever fired them, but he treasured them. He had the box made up with all the little accessories inside.
I love having them, but I'd rather have my friend back...

How beautiful...I am sorry for your loss...I lost my mentor a couple years back. He is sorely missed.

Very nice to have lasting gifts from a good friend. Every time you handle them you'll remember him, and some of the good times you shared.

That's a neat setup, but I agree...A friend by your side, is worth far more than a couple 6 shooters in a box.

That's a nice looking set of pistols. I hope they make you remember your friend each time you handle them.

I know the feeling well.

I have the first real firearm I ever shot, my Dad's Model 67A .22 rifle. All things considered, I'd rather have my Dad back.

I have a Uverti - the same as those - a great revolver and lots of fun to shoot.

It's never easy to lose a good friend - but he obviously thought the would of you and treasured your friendship as much as you treasured his. He wanted you to have them because he treasured those pistols - they were special to him just as your friendship was. Use them and remember him fondly as well as all of the good memories - he'll be watching over you.

Your friend did know a true craftsman, that box is a work of art. Nice of him to pass it to someone that would appreciate and know some back story on them.

Thank you guys for all the kind words. The way I look at it, the sadness at the loss of a loved one is a gift, because it means we had that deep relationship with that person.
We can remember the wonderful times we had, and I am going to shoot those pistols on his birthday next year.
Life goes on...
