several doe trotted into the food plot.

i'm comfy in my chairpod.

the ruger american rifle, 1st gen predator edition, chambered in .308 winchester is loaded with cast.
the recipe is 17gn of 2400 under a lee c309-170-rf.
the lee is checked and tumble lubed this time around.
the cartridges are from a batch i loaded 3 years ago.
2 have been 'burned' to verify the nikon 3-9x40 is still 'zeroed'.

i range the largest @ 45 yards.
aim, stroke the trigger, cycle the action.

the targeted doe takes off and 2 others look around.
i grunt to get their attention and choose another mature looking doe.

stroke the trigger, cycle the action.

all does leave the area.

i clear the action and leave the box blind.

two does down within 20 yards of each other.
the each ran 30~35 yards from where they were hit.

firearms season in missouri, for me, over.

I use same boolit almost same load in same caliber same rifle. It works great. Good job

it was almost too much for this old/decrepit guy.

i do a gutless quartering so that really helps.
no time spent gutting at the 'drop site'.
my favorite blind is 400 yards or so from the garage.

if you notice the tractor in the background, it has a winch that i use to pull the hide off.
just peels it off from the neck down after removing the lower leg sections.

the 'waiting' deer gets soaked occasionally to encourage cooling.

after quartering, i make a small cut and reach in to get the tenderloins.
drop the entire carcass, guts still inside, into the game cart and get to work on the next.

i'm glad i did it all but as you say, it was quite a bit of work.

it's not for everyone.

my father in law still field dresses, then takes the deer back to truck and hoses out the carcass.
he then decides if it is worth taking to a processor or calls me to help him quarter it up.

he's seen me do a dozen or so and prefers what he's comfortable with.

i've learned, by trial and error, to get a LOT of the edible stuff efficiently.
obviously, i'm not taking racks of ribs or other areas that would let the insides out.

i am satisfied with my 'return on investment'.
little waste for my efforts.

(btw, missouri conservation even has a youtube video for gutless quartering 'in the field'. never did that one though.)
