Does anyone know if there is a scope base similar to weaver or a picatinny mount that can be mounted to the top of the reciever on an 870 ?

There well may be such a base but the more common method of scoping an 870 is to buy a barrel which has a cantilevered scope base on it or buy a "saddle: type scope base which fits over the top of the receiver and is held in place by longer pins which pass through the scope base, receiver wall, and trigger group. Sounds a lot more complicated than it really is. It is simple to install.

I used one of those saddle mounts on my 870 12 ga. for 10 yrs and more. I finally got a deal on a used 870 and had it D&T for a rigid top mount for slug shooting only.:-D Robert

I have a Leupond turn-in scope base, that was machined on the bottom surface for a Remington 870/1100 (I had it on an 1100) - which I've had in my scrounge box for over twenty years.

It's not a Weaver-style/Pitcanny, but there's no reason a good machinist couldn't do the same & match the bottom of one of those rails to your 870's receiver's top profile - then D/T the receiver for it, accordingly.

The rail might even fit w/o machining.
