I decided to try and paper patch for my 45-70 that has a 460 dia bore. It took a bit but I found that 3 in wide cash register paper, cut into 3/4 in strips. I sized the boolits down to 455, and then used 2 thou thick paper to bring it up to 463.

I have also found another use for JPW. After the paper dries and is tight on the boolit, I give the paper a light coat of JPW. The JPW seems to help the boolit seat in the case with out tearing the paper, and it will also keep the paper from wicking up moisture and fouling the powder.

Now I just need to start working on a load to shrink my groups down some. I have started with 50 gr of IMR3031, and will work from there.

Best wishes from the Boer Ranch,

Joe

You are on the right track, for sure. In my 45-70 I size .451 and give 2 wraps of 16# printer paper. I lube with BAC, and seat them as long as will feed through my 1895g.
