you guys probably already do this but...
i used a silver sharpie on my dillon shellplates and wrote what i use them for.
it isnt a big deal if you only have a couple of them .
but it is one when you end up with 17 like i did.

Why did I not think of that. I will do it as soon as I can find all of mine. I think I will add the locater pin # along with the caliber.

I`ve been doing this same practice since I got my second shell plate for my Hornady Pro-7, now Pro-Jector. I now have a whole set of their shell plates and all are marked as are the 4x6" zip lock bags I store each in when not in use. Why does this make me sound organised? Robert

Use a black marker for a long time now. The newer 550 manual has a list that can be posted next to your loader. It has all the this fits this info.

put the list from dillon on the wall, put the plates in one of the 550 cartridge bins, in order.1-9 a to z, and bag the the pins, marked 1, 2, 3 etc....., leave the powder funnels loose, a thru what ever in a bin.......jus look up your needs and put it together.......you'd be surprised just how many calibers you can relaod by just adding pins or a funnel....

ive got plates, dies, toolheads and toolhead holders for 22 calibers.
the plates are somewhat interchangable so i only have 17 of them.
i put them in the holder i used last.
but having them marked is my way of making it easier on myself.

I've sharpied the tool heads for each caliber so I don't need to try and read the micro stamped print on the dies (that always seems to be turned to the most difficult place to read), but I just keep my shell plates and locator buttons in the little blue box provided by Dillon.

I've printed out the cross reference chart I found at Brian Enos' site, but so far none of my calibers cross over well. I hope to change that by building a .260 (or .243) AR, so I can use my .45 plate and locator buttons - nothing like using a potential $30-$40 savings to justify building a $1000 gun.

I just write on the flat side of the tool head the caliber, and underneath that, the number or letter of the shell plate, a dash, and then the number of the pin.

So my 44 mag tool head would look like this

44 mag
4 - 4

Here's a very nice piece of software for the Dillon 650 (http://www.nfatoys.com/dillon/)... You tell the program what conversion kits you have and it will tell you what you need to load any other caliber.

That's shooter logic, although my preference is for a good deal on dies for a caliber I do not possess, then I have to buy a rifle or pistol so I can use them.

I ended up with a bunch of .257 Wby brass from a guy I talk with at the range now and then... while I haven't bought a rifle (and dies) to use it yet, the thought crosses my mind now and again.

Thanks for passing something this simple along!

Many times we are just too complicated for our own good.

that is the best.
mine alreay have the caliber but not the last two items.
