I just want to pass on that I've found the Precision grip WERA 3.5mm 118012 screwdriver to be the perfect form to remove Slide-Plate Screws without damaging them, from the Model !0.

Unlike many other screwdrivers, the WERA slotted tool has a thin but strong long blade, thin enough to fit screw slots well and a shaft long enough to give some leverage.

The top, spin feature of the tool moves well and the unique handle gives a choice of griping styles.

Instead of grinding on or down another tool, you'll do well with this one, reasonably priced tool, just shop around on Amazon or eBay for the best free shipping/tool price.

No getting anything for promoting this tool line, just thought others might want to check it out.

By-the-way, I also have this sized tool in Wiha Drivers, but I find the WERA a better fit.

Cheers.

Nice tip-- thank you. I used to grind a lot of cheapie screwdrivers to fit various screws, and even bought some small sets like Brownell's 3 or 4 piece specifically for Colt SSAs. Over the last few years I've acquired some extensive hollow ground sets of tips, and can usually find one that just about right for most screws.

Thanks for the heads up. Anytime I can get away from a custom grind I will welcome it.

I have broken two of those while taking screws out of S&W revolvers over the years.
Some people just tighten things too tight.

That would explain the breakage.
