I have been playing with the 200 gr lee boolit in the 350.

All seems promising and I suppose that it will work as well as a 35 rem, but having never shot a deer with a rifle, except muzzleloader I just wanted some real world experiences on the 350.

And yes I have read the 27 page thread on this forum.

I know very little about the Legend, but that Lee bullet is pretty much a clone of the RCBS design and I do have experience with that pn deer in a .358, if you really can reach .35 Remington ballistics with that bullet, or even close to it, and place your shots well, it'll work just fine. Deer aren't really that hard to kill. Be realistic about range, stay calm, make a good shot, it'll work fine.

I shot a doe with a 30 cal flat nose bullet at 80 yards. 198 grains doing 1900 FPS out of the muzzle. Went down within 25 yards of where she was hit. I am guessing a 350 Legend cast load would be similar and do just as well.

I fully agree with this ^ been killing deer with the 35 Rem for more than 35 years . I'm using the Lee 200 now and it kills well at moderate speeds the 350 should be able make decent velocity due to higher pressures it operates at . Stick a hole through the vitals and it will due the job at sane ranges

Why wouldn't it work? Been using a 357magnum for years with no issue.

I too have killed deer with 357 magnum and I believe the 350 Legend would too. Has anyone killed a deer with their 350 Legend?
I will be using mine (CVA single shot rifle) this year. Would be nice to hear if someone already done it and reports it.

I've used the 357 mag and the 357 Maximum both on deer not much difference in the 350

My son shot two nice does last year with his 350 Ruger American. They both died quickly with two holes left in each.

A friend has one. From his experiences with it he is stuck with 147 gr 9mm bullets as the most effective. I know he has 180 and 200 gr molds, the twist and bore just don't seem to do well with them.

Good friend and fellow firearms instructor bought one for his son, Ruger American and in September of this year during the MI youth season the young man took his first deer - a little fork horn at 161 yards, deer ran about 30 feet and fell over . Not sure of the load they used but the dad is a caster /reloader so there is a chance it was a cast load.

None on my Legends yet.

But dozens in the 357 Maxi and its as close a caliber as there can be. My Maxi was shooting a 180 ssp @ 2100fps. That load has dropped 8/9 deer a few bang flops and not one made it out of site.

158 XTP FP. Great bullet if kept under 2000 fps.

Lee TL359-190RD. Is a great alternative to the RCBS 210 FP. Its taken 5/6 deer and two hogs. Again all died quickly and nearly within sight. Bang hogs where bang flops.

I have use of a MP 359-220 mold. Its bullet looks identical to the LEE/RCBS bullet only little heavier and a HP. This bullet is proving a new favorite. Expansion is right in the wheelhouse of the legend if cast COWW or BHN 13/15 and velocity 1900/2000 fps.

Just today I weighed out a batch of 14BHN 190 Ranch Dogs for use in my Legends. Even tho tjis bullet has a pretty WFP its feeding in the AR and the RARR. (Non issue for you I see)

Good luck,

Opening day here in ky. Using my ar in 350 legend. Was unable to find an acceptable accurate load with cast in time, so im using hornady 165 ftx over a charge of imr 4198. Getting about 1.25 inch at 100 yards.
Expected range will be roughly 150 to 200 yards.
Previously have used 357 mag with the rcbs 200 (lee clone) from a henry with great results, but it drops so fast after 100 yards that i dont use it on the property i currently hunt.

I do know from experience that the .351 WSL and cast is quite capable at woods ranges. Really can't see why the Legend would not be.

Add another one. I used my 350 AR with a Hornady 180gr. soft point. Nice 180 lb doe. Heart shot with a pass through. She went about 40 yards and piled up. Not much blood to follow, but the pump wasn't working.
And before you folks dog pile on me for using the copper clad, I don't have any small rifle primers to develop a load with. Never needed them before I got this rifle.

Ok:
Today I took down a small deer with my CVA 350 Legend and a 147gr cast Boolit High tech pc coated. The shot was about 30 yards and it was through and though. The hart was difficult to distinguish; really messed up. It run about 50 yards down the hill. Good thing it was small because it was hard to bring it up to the ridge.
This will answer the question and I am glad it worked for me. I could have shot it with a 200gr Lee boolit but I had the rifle sighted with the lighter boolit.

Sounds like it was the perfect boolit for the job.

It turned out to be. Normally I bring the Lee 200gr RCBS clone but this time I did not have a consistent load. The 147gr performed really well and I was having less than 1” accuracy; so it became the designated “driver” for this hunt. And I am confident in the results.

Loaded up some MP 359-220 HP cast 20:1 & Powder coated tonight. Used 2400, Herco & BlueDot. Looking for about 14/1500 fps no more.

My 7.3g load of Herco under a 270 Accurate bullet shoots real well @ 1075 & 1000fpe.

Sent that 220g MP bullet thru a 137# dressed deer this AM. Still sailing near as I can tell... blew a 2" gole thru the heart on its way thru!!

Kinda expected ta catch it but nope 1410 fps was enough for a nickle sided exit.

158 XTP FP. Great bullet if kept under 2000 fps.

This is comforting to read because, man, does my Marlin like them at around 1860fps. I intentionally took my 12 gauge into the woods last season, instead of trying the new Marlin 357. I was concerned that the velocity might be just too much for a handgun bullet, and having it disintegrate like a varmint round.

Thank uou brother!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I have used that XTP. FP MANY TIMES AND ITS A VERY UNSUNG BULLET!!! Its like the best corelokt or any good rifle bullet it expands and penetrates!! I have taken deer and hogs from my Maxi and Mag in carbines and its a great bullet.

Great successes. Nice to hear all the experiences with the 350 Legend. The load I used for mine was:
16.8gr A2400
147 gr 9mm cast PCed. (.357 sized)
S&B srp
Don’t know the fps yet
No signs of pressure and it shoots safe and well in my ssr cva scout2 td rifle.

Wish I could find some of those 158 xtps for a new pistol of mine
