It's not news that there's an ammo shortage right now. Last night I was at Walmart to pick up some odds 'n ends and passed by the sporting goods section. Something didn't look right - then it hit me! There's no deer slugs! NONE! Ammo shelves were almost empty of course, but no deer slugs?? This area switched to rifles 10 or so years ago but many, like me, still use a shotgun. And Walmart laid in a heavy inventory each fall. These days I load my own slugs, just like many of you do, so this doesn't effect me. But there are many others that it does. No deer slugs at Walmart? I've seen everything now!

You should consider your self lucky to see any ammo at Walmart. Our Walmart here in SO CAL removed all ammo and shooting accessories including the shelves they were displayed on! It was like they were never there.

That's why I reload. I am not dependent on much of anything right now.

Darn tootin. Everyone should have seen this coming by now.
At least most slugs if your casting them can be a all lead slug without having to add any tin or WW.

I thought this would be a local thing, or a joke. I was just called and asked if I had any extra slugs for deer hunting tomorrow. Apparently He had stopped at two fleet farms, and 4 other sporting goods stores along the way, and not a single slug of 12 or 20 gauge to be found. I think I've got him talked into using my Mag-10 with 78 caliber round balls for this weekend. I'd love to see what it does to a deer.

Those look great! What temp are you running for those and are they pure lead? I’m trying to find some pure lead and soften my range scrap 11-12 BHn down some for my zevroboy mold that will be here next week.

I have slug and buckshot molds I have never used but got JIC (Just In Case). I got a case of S&B 00 buckshot loads for $90 a few years ago when Midway had them on sale, and still have 6 boxes left so it will be a while before I need to cast buckshot. I am down to 30 slug rounds so will need to get it fired up this spring.

Best plan is to be able to reload everything you can. This thread reinforces that. Who would have thought 12 ga slugs would be difficult to get?

Draftpick. I think those were cast at about 700. I was using lead from my roof jack supply. About as close as you can get to pure lead on the cheap.

I bought a bunch of ammo Thursday 14 boxes 9mm , 15 boxes 45 ACP , a flat of 12 gauge AA #9 and a flat of Winchester 12 gauge #6 field loads . And hopefully that source will be back next week with a bunch of 30 carbine milsurp , I’d like to add a couple more thousand to my stockpile . That source didn’t have any slugs . But I’ve got enough molds to keep everything from my 8 gauge to my 28 gauge going with slugs and roundballs . As to buckshot I laid in a supply of factory 12 gauge 3” , 16 and 20 a couple years ago . And I’ve got reloadable buck in every size from 000000 down to #3 . I cast my own 000000 , 00000 and 0000 but all the smaller are store bought BPI or Remington . Almost forgot in the last couple years I laid in a goodly supply of factory loaded Brenneke slugs for the 16 , 20 and 28 .

Precisely why I bought 2 55 gal drums of wheelweights many years ago, JIC. I say it's 1500# but I actually think it was more like 1800#. Frankly I never thought I'd need to cast anything with it. But now I find myself casting slugs and #4 buckshot even though buckshot is now available. Now I'm considering a #1 buckshot mould and maybe a 9mm mould.

I'm not counting on anything being available in the future. Now I'm very happy that I bought the lead when I did.

I just had a younger family member call me to see if I was still loading buckshot , or slugs today as well . I think shotgun season opens Monday with no ammo to be found .

Foster slugs here if you can find them are $12 or more for 5. Hornady SST's are $30 box of 5. Can't get Remington Accu-Tips here right now. No buckshot to be found but can't deer hunt with buckshot anyway.

I laid in a dozen boxes of the Remington 20 gauge 2 3/4” Accutip for my Savage 220 two or three years ago . I’ve not gone to the Blackwater NWR for Sika deer in five years now . I just might sell the gun on GB then the Accutip ammo .

Yes, anything that could be construed as being useful for self or home defense has largely been made of unobtainium since the pandemic and the anarchists started destroying cities.

I have no idea what these are like but I did a search after watching a Taofledermouse video.

Some are in stock.

I got semi motivated Sunday and cast enough .415” balls (000000) to load about a dozen rounds of 8 gauge 8 pellets to the shell . Also cast enough .775” roundballs to make a dozen 8 gauge punkin ball loads . Gun season opens here Saturday , Brutus might be out there with me and a rifle .
