First off long time follower first time poster and I need some advice I have a uberti 1885 highwall and I was wanted to load some 385 cast projectiles for whitetail. Now that being said with this crazy shortage going on I would like to use some IMR 4198 that I have a magnum primers if possible, y’all have any ideas on where to start ? The gun is rated at 28,000 CUP and I would like to run some fairly hot loads if possible.

I load 30 grains of 4198 under a 415 grain boolit. Dacron added. Carnuba lube from the sizer and then tumble lubed in Ben's LL. Nice. Similar weight to yours and in the same general powder load range.

Thanks for the info 725, if you don’t mind me askin what size / thickness do you use and do you pack the case full or just fluff it enough to hold the powder in place ? Thanks.

Search out related threads on this site for authoritative information in the use of Dacron filler. It's a subject requiring a good understanding. I use a good pinch and stuff it in with a pencil eraser. I don't pack it tight, but rather firm enough to keep the powder in place, in front of the primer.
