This should be easy I hope and to be honest have not really spent much time evaluating the situation. A few years back I bought my son a 500 Bantam 20ga slug gun and now that he has grown I ordered with a 50% coupon a synthetic stock of normal dimensions (to replace youth size) and took a glance at the shotgun and am not sure how to get the forearm off. The replacement they sent has to "fingers" sticking out the back alrady attached which I assume attach to the bolt somehow. Its still deer season so I did not want to change it yet as scope may need to be played with after I change to longer stock. I was browsing here and thought surely someone must know and I assume it is real easy. So what say ye??

Been quite a while, but IIRC, drive out the two pins that hold in the
trigger group. Unscrew the big hand screw at the front end of the mag tube
and remove the barrel fwd (bolt part opened, since it locks into the bbl extension).

Remove the guts from the bottom, a couple of them are
like flat springs and you pry one side away from the receiver wall and the
pivot pin pops out.

Seems like the bolt came out the front and then you unhooked the forend
push-pull bars. Getting fuzzy on the details.

Not too accurate, but should get you started.

You serious? and here I was going to tell him to pay attention when you pull it down and it is self explanatory.....of course I may be biased as I have torn them down since the age of 10 with no issues.....I have even fully dissassembled/washed parts/reassembled in the predawn marsh with no more tools than a sharpened stick to start the triggerguard pins(DON'T ASK).....it's all in the angle of the dangle I guess. The hardest thing is to keep the mag cutoff and slide release plates in the sides of the reciever while you install the trigger housing...especially with numb fingers...but very do-able. Go slow/be patient/pay attention and it is no biggie for most...my buddies bring guns/reels to me in boxes/bags all the time...I have yet to have a 500 or 835 brought to me...that in and of itself says alot methinks.

only one pin to remove, the one with the dimple. Lift the back of the triggerguard the two mag tube catches will fall out. Align carrier with the milled section of the receiver. Lift out carrier. Slide bolt out the front of receiver. On some of the store brand guns like "New Haven" you may need to remove the mag tube. These screw out but you mayneed soft jaw pliers to avoid denting the mag tube.

Your best off taking the trigger group out and give it a good cleaning while your at it instead of bypassing that. Its real easy and just pop the pins for the trigger group and it will be self explanitory from there. I have the same one for my son and taken it apart hundreds of times. Piece of cake and no small parts to fly. Just remember to push the trigger group forward a bit to remove it. Kinda like push and pull at the same time works best for me.
PS- To remove the barrel, The action has to be open about an inch or it wont slide forward to come out.

A while back I saw a nice step by step video for a complete Mossy 500 teardown and reassembly on YouTube.

unless they changed the design you can't push a Mossberg trigger group forward, It has a lip at the front that fits on a shelf of the receiver. You tilt the trigger group forward making sure you don't damage the two shelves on the plastic housing. I've seen pleanty of damaged trigger groups on these. It only has ONE pin to remove. You're thinking of a Remington 870 with two pins. Winchester 1200/1300 may have two pins also.

Would it be a too completely radical concept to suggest seeing what Mossberg has to say about the matter? The owners manual might resolve the question.

And if that does not help one of these might be informative
