Several years ago I picked up a Saeco mold #574. It is supposed to cast a 300gr tapered flat point in dia .386. What does this go in. Is this the first part of getting the stuff together for a new rifle or what.
Any help would be appreciated.

386 diameter bullets are 41 Colt but nominal weight is 200grs
Best to just to call Redding, Saeco

38-55 Win maybe. Seems doubtful tho, even tho the barrel diameters are all over the place. Might be the ticket for a grossly oversize barrel

Nominal diameter of 38-55 is .3775 no way the mold is for a 38-55

This is how wildcat cartridges are born !
I've got this old boolit mould ... lets neck up a 30-06 case to .386 ... and
... Wah-Lah (Voila') ... the 390-06 is born !
Who needs the 400 Whelen when you got the 390-06?

Other thought avenues are to look into old European or metric military rounds or, considering the large number of very shallow grooves, maybe it's designed for use with a paper patch.

I have already talked to Saeco and no luck. I'll check out the metric side and see what I can find.
Thanks to all,

I think the .386 equates to about 9.8mm. I have not found a metric cartridge I’d that size

Yeah I know. Bore diameters for 38-55s are all over the place, from .375 to over .382

I suspect this might be a paper patch bullet for some .40 rifle. The shallow grooves, diameter and shape make me think that, but I could certainly be wrong.

I have an 1893 build Marlin .38-55 with .381 bore. I think the bullets are for .38-55 or perhaps a 9.3mm something.
