was considering adding burris 2-7 or leupold fx II 4x on a 9.5" SRH 44mag, anything you can tell me about how accurate they can be or your experience of using it scoped or scope recommendation, never used scoped handguns before. good loads i could do 5-6moa open sights but straining my eyes to do so. would be used in hunting with something to rest on.

My SRH w/ 4x Leupold scope shoots 4 MOA groups at 100 yards dependably.

My experience with scoped handguns is that it can cut your groups by 1/2 or 1/3 and significantly increase your target acquisition time. I have them on contenders and love them but it is what it is especially under 50 yards.

Have a red dot on my SBH and it makes it a 100 yd deer gun. With a good rest of course. I see no need for magnification at pistol ranges. Try a red dot I think you would like it. Had a Tasco scope on a 617 and hated it. To hard to find crosshair and get right eye relief.

I'm a red dot man. Optics on pistols are not for me. They are pain to look through

I've been using scopes on handguns for a few decades. I put one immediately on my 1st Redhawk way back when,,, (1980's era,) and promptly shot some groups that would cause some folks to call me a liar.
It does require a bit of a learning curve,, (finding the proper grip to allow you to see the crosshairs,) but it will also show you how much you really do move when shooting.
It will teach you to make better shots,, by focusing on getting yourself to settle down some.

Ruger Super Redhawk 7 1/2" with Bushnell 2x-6x set on 6x

50 yds rested load development - 3 shots each

50 yds rested 6 shots

100 yds rested - wind gusting and shooter getting tired (6 shots slightly under 4" with 11FS and 240gr Xtp)

Forgot I had this picture - 50 yds rested with heavier bullets 240 thru 355gr.

Had a 44 mag SRH with a Tasco 3x pistol scope. Shot great groups at 25 yds and as mentioned above, really shows you how much you can move when setting off the trigger. Crosshairs on the scope covered so much at 100 yds had to use the 25 yd black bull as target. With 240 gr xtp and heavy load of h110 got around 4" group. But for deer hunting from climbing stand was awkward and hard to get on target. Went back to open sights on lighter weight guns. At my woods range of 25 to no more than 40 yds I found open sights worked better.

I have a 44 SRH with a 7.5” topped with an Ultradot and it after getting used to it I find it is faster on target than open sights or scope as well as it tightened up my groups. I also have a 454 SRH 7.5” topped with a Leupold 2x, i like it but it will be replaced with an Ultradot eventually.

I'm another fan of the UltraDots, as I have them on both a 629 and a BFR. With good loads they will both shoot sub 4 MOA at 100 yds, so I really don't think you need the extra magnification. Target acquisition is very quick, and with their lighter weight they still hold well offhand. Also, no problem with eye relief or field of view, as you can shoot with both eyes open.

Very nice writeups Looks like 4moa is very doable.

I've used a 2x LER scope on my 7.5" .44mag SRH (bought new in 1994) for load development. It consistently shot 4-5moa when I did my part. Never got comfortable or fast shooting it with a scope offhand, so the scope (with the SRH rings on it) stays in the safe. Irons for me on my pistols and revolvers.
