Looking for a few starting loads both Sub and Super using the Lee 230 gr from a 300 blk. The rifle has a 16 inch 1-8 twist barrel with an adjustable gas block, pistol length system. The adjustable gas block is also new to me, what would be the best setting to use?
Would want the rifle to function with both types of loads.
Powders I have on hand are Unique, Imr4198, Imr 4227, 5477, Trailboss, Imr 4895, Hodgon 110, Win 296, and a little of the Old Win AA680

Best bets for starters would be H110 then 4227.

Well, that is some help. Will search for load data.

My mold just arrived, so I have not shot lead yet,,
but, with 210 grain Sierra Match Kings, "CFEBLK" powder was phenomenal,,

I am pretty sure the rounds were subsonic (no silencer) , but, the round sure does not have the 223 style "bark",,

That will be the powder I use, when I manage to mold some of those Lee bullets for the 300AAC,,
You can look up the amount of powder,,

I have a 16" 1:8 with pistol length gas tube. I tested 8.5-10g of H110 in.5g increments. 9.0g was most accurate for me @ 2.20 OAL. Boolits are COWW, powder coated and water quenched.

Are these the 230 grain out of the Lee mold?

And, are they water quenched, after powder coat?

Is this load functioning without any problems in your ar?

bstevns: My AR Blaqckout will cycle with as little as 11.2gr 1680 I don't have it suppressed so I don't worry about subs and usually load the Lee 230s over 12 to 13gr. 1680. This is a 16" 1 in 8 barrel Gp

Not worried about loads being sub either, just was wondering if that 9gr load was working?
Have you tried IMR 4198? with the 230gr Lee?

bstevns: No, I haven't Tried 4198 yet. Most of my Blackout rounds are sonic and a lot lighter than the 230gr. Lee. A favorite of mine is a Noe 129gr. Spire point Powder coated sized .309 and gas checked over 17gr. LilGun. I can't find my notes on the Lee 155gr. at the moment but have used IMR 4227 with those Have also used Shooters World (Lovex) Buffalo Rifle with the Noe bullet, Gp

I guess the purpose of casting bullets is to be cheap,, if the tire guy is giving me lead,, heavier bullets cost about the same as light bullets,,
From the loading data,, and some plinking, I only need 3/4 or less of powder, if I use heavier bullets, to cycle my AR,,

So, I am hoping to get the 230 grain Lee mold to work,, THAT will keep my powder cost to a minimum,,,:-)

That was kind of my thought, Good on lead for a while but the powder is a different story.
I do have 2 lb of IMR 4198 and a 1 lb of trailboss. Wondering if Trailboss will function a AR with the heavy bullet.
Have both the Lee 155 and 230 gr moulds and a few Lymans 311291, and a 310299 wonder if they would work?

Yes, cycles just fine and locks back after last round. For supers, I have 2 different loads with Lee boolits. I use the 312-160-2r for plinking with 14.6g H110 @ 2.025 OAL alloy is straight COWW, water quenched, PC & GC. I worked up a hunting load using the 309-170-F with 14.9g H110 @ 1.910 OAL alloy is 50/50 COWW/SOWW, air cooled, PC & GC. The 170g feeds fine out of my 5rd duramag, sometimes will FTF on a 30rd PMAG. I wasnt too concerned as that load will be used for hunting only and I just use the 5rd mag.

I could get 8gr cfepistol to cycle 170gr with pistol gas. Below that, nope. Most pistol powder gives the pressure but not enough gas. Rx7 works so 4198 should but not sub.

Does not matter if sub or not. Upper I am putting together uses a pistol gas system.
Now to find a Complete Bolt Carrier for it, if I can afford or trade for one.

My AR with the Sierra 230 grain Match King, and 11 gr of CFEBLK , will run like it is shooting factory ammo. :D
It is accurate, and throws the brass surprisingly far,,

I ordered one of those picatinny mount brass catchers to catch the brass,,
it was going so far,,, I hope the catcher works,, :lovebooli
