Dented Rifle case?

So I come up with the one case with a little dent in it is this any big deal to worry about 303 British loading for cast bullets270412j

It looks like its from too much lube up top when it was sized.

I've gone ahead and fired a few like that in full house .270Win. 2 of the 4 split, so I tossed any after that,
then got more careful about my case lube practices.

For cast in the .303, I'd shoot 'em.

I don't know about your cast boolit load, but sometimes with a standard load they'll iron themselves back out.

You might want to anneal them first so they don’t crack when firing...but probably won’t crack imo anyways.

a lube dent, load & shoot it. it will fill out.

Dents in the shoulder after FL sizing are lube dents. Dents below the shoulder of fired cases are more often due to very low pressure that can't expand the case to seal the chamber. So, the question becomes, "When did your body dent appear, after sizing or after firing?"

Anyway, shoot the thing out. I've fired hundreds of them and the dent doesn't harm anything nor does it weaken the case.

I haven't seen fliers with dented cases either. I would assume the pressure blows the case out before the bullet completely leaves the case?

I was given a bunch of 30-30 that had dents like that. Annealed them all and then shot them. I lost a few to eyeball looking cracks but far more than not it was a successful save.

It will fire form out and .303 brass last a bit longer if you just neck size them.

Too much lube. Should fire form back to normal. Maybe won’t shoot in the same group as normal cases, but otherwise, no big deal.

IMHO, considering the high pressure of firing and the low resistance of brass to conform under pressure I doubt that normal small lube dents will have any meaningful effect on accuracy.
