I have 3 big gun shows coming up in 3 weeks and a nice 1903A3 sporter on the table.
I'm thinking of taking that money and finding another .22 Hornet to replace the one I had decades ago.
I let go of that "Topper" in .22 K Hornet many years ago to finance something else I wanted more. Now, I wouldn't mind having another "Hornet".
The issue is, just what kind of rifle do I want? A single shot? A bolt gun?
Let us all ponder the possibilities....

You seem to be definite about it being a Hornet. So, it's between a single shot or repeater. Maybe one of the Savage 340 models?

I have been through 3 different brands of Hornets, and I can say the absolute best (for me) is the CZ 527 American. Comes with a "set-trigger", wonderfully accurate, and being a mini-Mauser action, it ejects cases faultlessly.

I had a late 70's 340,and had trouble extracting the neck sized casings, but it shot my Lee Loader reloads wonderfully. Traded it for a beautiful Ruger #3, that did NOT shoot my reloads well. My next Hornet will be Hickok's suggestion.

Does Ruger still make the M77/22 in the Hornet? It’s a good gun as well.

And, the CZ has an ugly profile with the mag hanging out the bottom...

UPDATE!!
Found a Handi-Rifle I couldn't pass up! It is an SB2 in .30-06!!
I know, that's a long way from .22Hornet but for $150 with a scope I was bringing it home.
Took it to the range yesterday, it is brutal! But for what it was intended it would make an awesome pack/deer/hog gun. And very accurate to boot!
Did a bit of stock work to make it look more civilized.
Going to work up some reduced loads for it. Anyone ever tried .30-30 level loads in a .30-06 case? LOL

Easy enough to reduce the load down to those levels 4895 and lighter weight bullets like the 130 gr fn . If your loading cast bullets you can go as low as you want with the right powder such as 5-6 grs of Bullseye and any normal weight cast bullet like 150-200 gr you'll be righ in the 22 LR velocity range

some good loads with 175-200gr bullets......

12grs. Unique or Red Dot
16.5gr. 2400
20gr. 5744 or Buffalo
23gr. RL-7
30gr. 3031 or H4895

Theseloads have shot well in my 03A3's, you should find one your rifle likes.
