Reline a gas gun barrel?

Is it possible? Say I was to get a SVT40 with a shot out bore. Could it be relined, and maintain full function? Could the sleeve be predrilled for the gas hole and inserted with enough precision to index the new hole with the old hole? Just wondering if this has been done with success.....
