I made a 50# batch of 200 swc for my 45acps..waterdropped them because of convenience,,hodge podge alloy ww,pure, range scrap, bearing liners...
I checked them today,,30bn!!!
Wow,be intresting to see if they shoot better than 10-12bn.

Yeah, water dropping can produce bullets harder than most would believe. I doubt they will shoot better, but probably not any worse either.

watch the pressure signs when you start shooting them.

I usually cast my 45 ACP's around 8-10 BHN

I'd cut the alloy with pure.

You will not get pressure signs in 45 acp. Even though those bullets are very hard, they are still softer than a copper jacket. Shoot away.

That's one reason I stopped water quenching. Hardness isn't a complete non issue, but it's far less important than I initially believed. I don't even bother checking anymore. I add a little nugget of Super Hard to every pot of range scrap and call it done. Haven't had serious leading in anything recently. Pushing some 7.62X25's well over 1,400.

Wow - That's way harder than needed for 45 ACP. Go ahead and shoot them up, there's no problem. BUT in the future I would aim for a BHn around 8-10.

I also use soft bullets in .45 ACP. I've never done a formal accuracy comparison between hard and soft bullets in .45 ACP, but I don't recall seeing much accuracy difference between hard and soft with the few hard bullets I've used.

Have you sized them yet? That might be a tough task...

Like many of the members above I us a soft alloy for my 45 ACP bullets. My "Mystery Metal" runs 11-12 BHN...

If they don't fit, you could well get some leading! Keep us in the loop.

Unless you have a special need for it I have never seen a good reason to water drop. It is usually better to have a softer bullet and a good lube. In some instances a harder bullet will lead the barrel quicker than a softer bullet.

For my rifle loads I just change the alloy and 16bhn is good enough with a gas check for over 2000fps. Powder coated I have not found a velocity that puts any lead in the barrel.

Pistols I always used to use COWW's, air cooled, lubed or PC. Never had a problem with them up to 1300fps.

If I were to use those bullets I'd soften them. Put in an oven and air cool to see where you are at.

ive found it rare when softer bullets outshot harder bullets in any GOOD gun. Keep in mind that 30bhn is still soft compared to copper jacketed and how do they shoot in your gun?
