Just to give me an estimation what velocities are you getting (1895 standard 22") with 32 - 36 grains of 3031 and boolit of 350-375 grains?
TIA

I ask, because load manuals are all over the place on velocities for the same powder weight.

I'm only looking for a max around 1200-1300 fps.

Try Hodgdon's website. Their Annual Manuals have lots of 3031 powder charges for lots of 45-70 bullet weights, from Trapdoor loads through lever action loads, and on to "modern" (strong single shot?) loads. That said, my 1895 is most accurate with 400 gr bullets and 38.5 gr IMR 3031, which was listed as a "factory equivalent" in my 1967 Lyman manual.

Hello TC,

My manuals all start above the charge your looking for,
Here is a page from the 48th edition Lyman Handbook 2002.

Hope this helps, AntiqueSledMan.

I’m seeing 1075fps for 30gr with 350gr projectile.

I can't help you with velocity data from my Winchester 1886, but I CAN say that you're using a good powder. So far, all of my best groups have been with 3031. Good luck.

I have and use 5 different manuals plus some info from the net, but the velocities listed vary so much for the same load data that I was hoping someone here had had actual chronoed info.

Oh well had I not dilly-dallied and waited til the last minute, I would have time to do that!
