Our range is a very nice place to shoot with volunteer RSOs that keep everything running smoothly and above all safely. So, we've been short of volunteers so I stepped up to become one not knowing that there were benefits. The club president laughed when I asked him, "There are benefits?" I was just doing it to help out but found that it is free membership if you work 12 shifts a year and you can open the range for private use during off hours which is great for friends and their wives who are new to shooting.

Yesterday was my first shift as an RSO, it went very smoothly and all of the shooters had a good time. People came in and left at good sequences so cease fires were minimal. Got to see some very fine rifles and hang out with the black powder guys and some good target shooters.

The biggest benefit though was when I shut the range down at the end of the day. My son had stopped by so we went out to pick up bullets and lead downrange. In about 30 minutes, we had 32# of range lead collected. I put it on a sheet and took it into the house and someone just had to come see what I'd brought home.

I took a picture and my wife said... "I know where that's getting posted."

I brought the scrap in and she came over and started rolling on it. Weirdest thing.
