Alox question

Have some cast bullets (lyman #2) lubed with alox + gas ck - plan on loading in 30-06 and 300 win mag at 2200 -2400 fs - should I have any leading problem?

You will likely see failure above 1800 fps, and you will likely have success at 1800 fps and less.
One thing that might help have success at faster speeds, is using Ranch Dog's "Dip" method of applying Alox.

More than lubricant type will determine if your rifles lead .
Size and smoothness of barrels and the all important FIT of the boolit to the barrel / throat .

I like to keep alox tumble lubed @ not over 2000 fps velocity .

But there is only one way to know for sure ... Load up a few and Choot Em !

Hint: slug your bore(s) and use a boolit that fits ... in this game , size trumps hardness every time .

My experience with Alox is that is it successful at 17,000 psi. You don’t post what pressure your loading your rounds at, but expect even Lyman would promote their other lubes which would be superior in an ‘06.

I lube with Alox at room temperature for the .45 Colt. Why not look for a lube that is best applied with heat, and operates at higher pressures? Get some performance out of your boolits in that ‘06.

I use a heat lamp designed for a reptile terrarium to warm up my sizer-luber. These are inexpensive and available at your local pet store.

Assuming you are referring to the 50% Beeswax/50% Alox 2138F as the lube, maybe. Leading depends on a lot of things, not just the lube quality. If you have bullets that are .308" diameter, and your groove diameter is larger, you are going to have Leading (I actually like to have the bullet be the size of the throat, usually a .001 or .002" larger than groove). If your barrel has a lot of tool marks, your chances of Leading are larger. At 2400 fps, your chances of Leading are far higher than at 2200 fps.
