I got my first cast bullet speed goat today. Had 17 and 11 year old sons along. 99 yards facing us. 358 JDJ with NOE 360 232 flat nose cast from air cooled WW. Measured 12 BHN. Both boys have been in on and made kills. Both said wow at how fast he dropped. The exit is visible rear of the gun. Yes, it is registered as an SBR; barrel is 13”. Bullet chrono’d just over 2200, which I thought was amazingly fast for that platform.
Anyway, quite excited and thought I’d share. Happy Sunday

We shall see if the pic is really there. Tech-tards unite!

Great when you make the bullet, load the ammo and then are successful with your ammo born of your hands. Great Goat, thanks for sharing.

It's good to see a man showing his boys all of the ropes & not just buying ammo off the shelf. Not many of your kind still around. Congrats on the hunt! Congrats on your accomplishments With Your Sons! Great pic too.

Good morning and Congratulations !!
Well done in everything !! Fine looking Anty-lope. 99 yards ...... how many sections did you have to crawl snaking up to that table fare ?
Thank you for posting this ! That photo is great.
We had the joy of hunting, casting and loading with our two sons. Our AZ son drew his first elk tag and is rearing to go.

It is brutal on both ends. Mine is 13" but the velocities are surprisingly high, higher than most of the listed speeds in JD Jones' data. Barrel was a 35 Rem converted by SSK. I am not the original buyer, so I know no more than that. It is based on the 444, just as the 309 is. It is fast enough to be notably more than the 35 Rem, but not quite a Whelen. The Rem bullets are a bit soft at muzzle speeds, but at distance, it's all the same for me, especially because I mostly shoot cast through it.

You might enjoy the 309 JDJ if you ever come across one. That is the barrel I had on my Contender pistol, and it was a joy to shoot. Recoil was somewhere in the 41 magnum area. Not as bad as a 44 magnum. I was seeing 2250 fps with my accuracy load with a 175 grain cast bullet from a 14" barrel. Basically what you have now, but less recoil. The only reason I got rid of it, was because I did not like the Contender. The JDJ cartridges though are real powerhouses.
