Does anyone here cast for a 52 calibur? Just got one and looking for a good bullet to try. So far I have some sabots and cast bullets to fit them on order.

I believe the 52 was designed for the Barnes 300gr 45 Sabot. I had a hunter take an elk with one and the Bull was DRT. The exit hole was the size of my fist.
The hunter was using 150gr of Triple 7 and said that it was developing nearly 2000fps. I don't remember what the twist rate was but it must have been pretty fast.

I've got two .52 bore rifles. Both are TC sidelock rifles (one flint, one percussion) rebored to use standard off the shelf fifty caliber rifle molds (Ideal, Lee, Lyman, RCBS) then paper patched and swaged through a .519" diameter sizer. I do have a Rapine #520350 Civil War carbine mold to try out just for grins but no load development yet. Another approach is to take the Lee and Ideal/Lyman .533" diameter minie molds and run them through the .519" swage.

Never thought about it before but I'd like to try lapping out a fifty rifle mold to shoot as maxis.
Get the base to cast .519"/.520" diameter and the front band slightly larger.

so if a guy was to cast lead bullets for your 52 what would the sized diameter have to be for a good friction fit (no paper patching)?
