View Full Version : Tried some new (to me) powder colors

OK, so I had some Eastwood colors sitting around I hadn't tried and had some good (and not so good) results. All shake and bake method, ambient temp, just powder and bullets in a yogurt container. Lee 356 124gr 6 cavity.

First up, Rally Blue:

Covered well. As you can see it's more of a translucent color, which has me wanting to try the actual Eastwood translucents.

Next, Vermillion aka Chevy Orange:

Stuck to bullets and covered well. Nice and slick feel.

Next up, Mirror Red:

I mixed Vermillion and Mirror red and got a plum color which covered nicely:

Next up, Hotcoat Powder Gray:

Powder Gray is probably my favorite in terms of perfect covering. Nice and slick plus the battleship color looks cool.

Now for the bad, Copper Vein. It wouldn't cover at all. Had to wash it off. Avoid!

Also wouldn't cover at all, Flat Black.

Hot Rod Black and Rally Wheel Silver covered OK, but both had a rough texture that didn't seem like it would be very lubricious.

IF you stay with TGIC polyester with a higher gloss you should have good luck

flat colors, whites, lighter colors often do not work well.

wait until you get into blending colors then things get crazy fun :)

The best Eastwood colors for me have been Ford Light Blue, Wagon Red and Mirror black. All are gloss powders and cover well. Matt Blaze Orange was a complete failure.

Copper Vein is tricky ... I’ve mixed it successfully with red, blue, pretty much any good powder to obtain a really nice nice ‘sparkly’ color. This is red with Copper vein

I haven't had much luck with the metallic or sparkling powders by themselves either. They do work well when mixed with a little bit of another powder.
