H&G Mould Handle Repair

I have an H&G mould that one wood handle is coming off the steel. Anyone know what was used originally to secure them? It looks like some kind of glue and I’m guessing the years of use have just deteriorated it.

I know I could use any epoxy. I’m just curious what was originally used.

JB weld. Epoxy will melt. Or drill and pin.
