I cast for about 10 different calibers of the years.
Have just recenly went to powdercoaring for the 45acp and 9mm with excellent results.

I have a very old Ideal mould that is Keith style for .357 mag. I believe it is 180gr, but cannot remember. Will be digging it out shortly.

I am thinking of casting them, sizing down to .356, powdercoating and squeezing back down to .356 for use in the wife's 350 legend.

Will these powdercoated slugs mess up the gas system on her Ruger Ar style 350? Would make a dandy hog round if it'd work. I wont attempt if you fellas think its a bad idea. Pulling the gas tube, block and cleaning along with barrel ports doesnt sound like my idea of fun

It will be fine as long as it chambers. Feed on the AR15 is hit and miss. Trim length and OAL are very important.

I shot about 400 rounds through my AR in 350. There is no lead buildup anywhere. I powder coated just about all the bullets I shot through it.

I shoot a lot of lead in my 350 legend... I haven't had any leading issues nor any gas system issues.

I shoot two boolits:
Accurate 35-125 YG
Accurate 36-180 LG

So with the 125, feeding/cycling shooting are all great. I am working on the appropriate powder and charge. I've got some loads that work, but I haven't really dialed in the load yet.
With the 180, I've dialed in the load, but am still working on getting it to cycle/feed 100% of the time...

Keith style .....The Keith has a very sharp shoulder at full diameter until truncated into the nose. Take a look at http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?387647-350-Legend-and-Cast-Boolits&p=4761307&viewfull=1#post4761307

Note that the 350's full-diameter freebore is less than 1/10 of an inch.
That's what your bullet/seating has to accommodate or you'll jam/slam the bolt closed and have to mortar things to eject the unfired round.

As long as you do keep that exposed shoulder to ≤ 0.010” you "should" [cough, hack, sputter, ahem, look at the floor, ...YMMV] do OK and the Keith feed even at 357/358 (you’ll have to trial/error* check on your particular barrel. Both of mine feed/fire up to 358 just fine)

Note also that my experience says I need to have at least a 0.465" nose ahead of the case to feed reliably. So it's race between seating deep enough to clear the shoulder, and still long enough OAL to feed the ramp. (Ain't this fun?)

As to ALOX'd or PC'd lead, the gas system doesn't care at all.

No reason to size twice. Just cast, coat, size, and load.
