Got my Henry back from the recall and have to say it is MUCH better than it came from the factory. A guy can actually shoot it now.

Lost interest in it very quickly when I first got it, but had it to the range today and starting to warm up to it.

Was shooting the Lee 240 grainer sized .459 (PC and GC) and it shot OK. Just wondering what others are shooting in theirs. Maybe I should try sizing to .460??

Any thoughts?

44 Mag? .459? Something seems awry. Do you have a 45/70, in which case I would try some .460, if they will chamber? If by chance you meant you were sizing .429, and wanted to try .430, my response is a definite YES! I have found most 44 magnums shoot .430-.432 boolits more accurately than .429, Elmer Keith to the contrary.

duh! Yes, I was shooting both my 45/70 and 44 Mag today. 45/70 shoots great at .459. I have my 44 Mag boolits sized to .430 and wonder if I should go to .431 or 2. I think I've got that right this time!

.002 over groove is about perfect for wheel weights with tin alloy at magnum pressures in a 44. .001" over would be my next choice.

It has been my experience with my Henry's, that the throats are generous. I would try .431" for sure, and .432" wouldn't be a bad idea either. I do not have a 44 magnum one, but I find my 327 federal likes heavy and soft bullets. My 308 shoots good with most anything, but again seems to prefer bullets big and heavy.
