The latter part of June I got a slightly used one. I worked up a jacketed load for starters just to see what kind of accuracy it will produce. I satisfied myself that it was indeed an accurate rifle.
Then I started on my cast loads and found it wanted to shoot them also. In 3 different range sessions I had a problem of the hammer falling to half cock when I pressed the trigger and didn't find any consistency to this problem. It just happened when it wanted to. I started to think on it and decided that maybe the bolt wasn't locking properly because I've always loaded cast long enough to mash into the throat. I tend to get better accuracy this way. Yesterday I loaded some RCBS 35-200 FN .032" shorter. Out of 23 rounds, 22 fired perfectly, the 23rd was long and I felt resistance when I closed the lever. Hammer fell to the half cock position. So the problem has been overcome.
Anyone who has a problem with the BLR failing to fire may want to try this.
