Rechamber? - 1871 Rem Rolling Block 50 Government

I need some advice/guidance. I picked up a nice 1871 Remington Rolling Block - NYSM in 50 Government with a Navy Arms 4x brass scope. This is my first rifle in this caliber, but I used to own a Uberti rolling block in 50-90 and really enjoyed that cartridge. I am considering rechambering this to 50-90 because of my familiarity, but I also have doubts. Does anyone have experience with such a conversion/rechamber? Also, how will this affect the value of the rifle?

If it's anything close to original (beyond installation of the reproduction scope), that NYSM roller is something of a collectable'. Last nice one (NRA 'good'+) I ran across sold for something over $800 on an estate auction...and that was a couple years ago!! IMO, rechambering to 50-70 would chop the intrinsic value by 40%-50%. If it were mine, I'd either shoot it 'as is' or find it a good home then use the cash to buy a modern reproduction RB and have it rechambered.

I'd keep it original. They are a fine rifle and they ain't going to make any more!

I have an old RB in 12.7x44mm that I'm always playing with it, but I would not change it to 50/70 as many clowns have done. The original bore is mirrored.

Unless you have the eyes of Superman and can see a target clearly at 600 yards with the existing barrel sights, the .50-70 will do everything the .50-90 will, with less recoil. The .50-70 is a grand cartridge. I have three .50-70s, including a NYS model. I'd keep it as is and enjoy it.
