Well friends, I made it to 86 today and I don't feel too bad. As a boy my friends and I doubted if we would live to see the the next century but all of us did. Sadly, some of them are gone since the turn but many remain above the grass. I must say, I don't like the changes that have taken place in this wonderful country since I was a boy. When I was much younger we didn't worry too much about what political party a president belonged to, he wasn't going to try and tear down the house. To me the future doesn't look all that bright.

Happy Birthday! I don't think many of us like those changes either!

Congrats, you are a lucky man if you still have some childhood friends that are still around. My father will turn 84 shortly, still likes to drive around the neighboring countryside to see what his old neighbors are doing. He even ran my brothers combine some when they were hauling grain to town. Secret is to always have something to do the next day. I hope my Dad and you don't see this country fall to pieces, but I'm pretty sure me, my kids and grandchildren will.

68 here as of midnight. 10/03/1952
Not a whole lot of excitement. Still here, still standing, still shooting, reloading, casting and still reading Cast Boolits.

Every day on the green side of the grass is a good one. Thank you Lord.

Great accomplishment, stay healthy and live long! I also agree I think the times before were simpler and the next generation has it much harder.

Happy Birthday sir. I'm not that far behind you, and sadly, I think we've seen the best part of our country in the rear view mirror. When we grew up, we used to be able to buy guns & ammo at the local hardware store or through the mail. No crime then, so it isn't a gun problem. Had a rifle team in the basement of our school. Sure were simple times back then. Our children & grandchildren have to face a tough row to hoe to keep the freedoms we have left.
Stay well & keep your powder dry.

Happy Birthday!

I just turned 63 this summer. I remember as a kid how the year 2000 seemed so far away and we all thought everything was going to be like all the si-fi . I always said that I was going the get a new car in the year 2000 just to say I had a 2000 what ever because I thought it sounded so cool back then, and then 2000 gets here and they didn't have anything I wanted.

Growing up we had fields and wood's and lakes and ponds to play in. We had slingshots and BB guns and made tree forts . You could ride bikes and mini bikes and go exploring all day. Looking back at what I had growing up and what I see now I would hate to be a kid now.

Thanks for sharing and congratulations on the Birthday. My father just turned 90 and is doing well. I am 66 and plan to shoot, cast and reload as long as I can. Mostly I plan to enjoy the freedoms we have while we can. This country has become a sad collection of sinful people wanting what is not earned or theirs rightfully.

Happy Birthday Gopher Slayer. You are 62 days older than I. And Happy Birthday to all yall. And, Yes there are a lot fewer things to be positive about these days than in our younger years. We need to just brace ourselves and be positive anyway that we can. As some have stated before, " I am really in good shape,,, for the shape I am in. LOL Some of my positives: Load up ladder of boolits and shoot right away in the back yard - shoot a few arrows at up to 60 yards in the back yard - work in the shop milling a lower -or making stuff - going to Happy Strings Ukelele Band Practice on Tuesday - Garage Band twice a month - being almost 100% caregiver for my wife of 66 years - and being able to watch my son each Sunday morning on Utube as he directs the worship at church. Then we go to the services at our church online. Over here in Conroe Texas we are cooling down nicely.

Guess I'm a day late and a dollar short, Gopher Slayer. Happy Birthday. Age 100 is almost within your reach, if you'll just stop drinking, smoking big cigars, and staying out late at night!
