I’m pretty old school but finally got around to building a couple of ARs, one a.300 BO pistol.

Never shot cast boolits from a gas-op gun before. Will old-fashioned lube clog the port?

I’m interested in .300 subsonic loads.

Old fashioned (i.e., soft-lube-groove-filled) is "problematic" flinging lube through the port.
On the other hand, a very light coat of next-day ALOX leaves nothing at all.

With ALOX, you do not have to have "filled" grooves. In fact (when I use it )
I just put a very small dab on my thumb/forefinger to make them "greasy"
and rotate the bullet between them -- usually 3-5 bullets per finger-dab --
and put on a plate.

Throw them into a slightly-warm (225) oven for an hour, cool overnight,
and shoot them next morning... FAST.

Thanks.

I see powder-coating in my future.

Once mastered/equipped/disciplined, PC is the cat's meow.
ALOX, however, requires but a finger.

Nope. 2ar10s and 2 bo, one is pistol. PC is great but alox/wax works. I found bll needs GC to prevent blowing off. If adjustable gas block, use GC or adjuster will get frozen.

Never had a problem in Mini 14, M1A, AR 10, and many calibers of AR 15. I shot lubed in them all before I switched to PC. I always felt like the hot gasses pushed the lube past the ports after inspecting the various types of gas operating systems. After PC, they looked just like shooting FMJ.

Mini 14 is the dirtiest gas system just from carbon. I think that is because I loaned the rifle to a friend, it rained, he didn't clean it, didn't return it same day. Op rod and gas piston rusted shut, had to the Garrand stomp to free it, even after a long soak with penetrating oil. I took bronze brushes to clean it up, but still the metal is not smooth as it had been. Even so, the system runs well, and does not falter even after a 1k round day. I love PC, but the 1k day was with lube, longest PC day was 750 ish.

I PC but on boolits I push hard I use BLL. But it would be like 2-3 drops in 3-400 boolits with a tumble.

PC with GC in my Garand works great.
