22 caliber BATOR, LEE custom double cavity mold / mould
Winning bid: US $99.00

New In Box 22 caliber dual cavity mold.

This is a custom design bullet mold made by LEE.

The BATOR is a Gas Check design 55 grains suitable

for any of the 22 caliber center fire cartridges when cast hard.

I bought an extra to machine down and make a plain base mold for my Hornet, never got around to it

Sorry I lost the picture.

I wish I could. I have sent the full picture and all by e mail to friends but that was all that would work here for me.

I saw that too... foolishness. Makes me want to email the winner (weiner) and let him know how he is over paying. Sort of like the guys that pay $20+ for a used sizing die that is commonly available through any of the usual suppliers.

Having said that, last time I looked at Midsouth, the custom molds were no longer offered.

Seems foolish but:

1) if the buyer is happy, the buyer is happy.
2) if you don't belong to this forum and have the inside noise on such then you are in the dark.

Biggest problem with Ebay that I see, is there must be some real uninformed shoppers. I see moulds and reloading equipement, not older antiquated stuff, but newer used or new stuff going for way more than you can buy in from Midsouth, Natchez, Grafs, Midway or others, and I just don't get it. I would have had a custom Mountain Moulds mould cut before I spent the money on that two cavity Lee, stupid is as stupid does.

I see it all the time. People are paying 70 to 100 bucks for Lyman molds you can buy at Midway for 56. i was bidding on the 120 gr 9mm. it went for over 60 bucks. Don't get me wrong, I've paid some bucks for a mold that is out of production and to me it was worth it. I can see if it's out of production and this is the only way you can get it but if you're serious about casting, wouldn't you already know what a new mold costs?

Lyman production molds at Mid - South for $46.55

People are paying $50 , $60 and even $70 for these molds.

Back in the day, I sold a few used M1 carbine magazines on eBay. They went for an average price well over $15 each plus shipping. At that time, the very first link if you Googled "M1 Carbine magazine" was Fulton Armory selling new in wrap magazines for $6 each.

I would think that if you had figured out how to set up an eBay account, a Google search would be in your tool kit. But apparently not then, and still not today...

IIRC the seller was saying this was a HORNET mold.He bought 2 and was going to machine down ? and make a plain base for the Hornet. A custom design for any 22 center fire.
Lee should hire him in advertising:

I think some guys buy midway and sell on eBay the next day. All they have to say is RARE or give it a name nobody ever heard of. I guess the only people that know how to google stuff are members of this and other shooting forums. Have you guys seen the antique bullet(seppository) moulds yet?

Why do people pay crazy-ass prices on ebay? For the most part theyhave no choice!!! Keep in mind that you can buy and sell internationally on ebay and that in some parts of the world you simply cant buy certain items easily, cheaply IF AT ALL! Also, if you live in a congested urban area that has such an item you have to contend with traffic, finding a place to park and dealing with the unwashed massses. For many PayPal is the only means they can pay for any item so when you have two international bidders going after the same item that they have restricted access to look out! When MidWay shot itself in the foot by doing shady international deals many international buyers had nowhere to turn but Ebay. Minimum purchases and bizarre proprietor imposed international buyer requirments (MidSouth for example) make shopping at most larger online dealers in the US unreasoanable. Most commerciual firms wont use the USPS and firms like UPS add HUGE ancilliary and brokerage fees before customs and any local taxes. I once bought a used Redding Powder Measure on ebay for $80.00 and the seller thought he was doing me a favour by sending it UPS as it was "cheaper" than USPS even though I specified the former. In the end I had to pay a $185.00 COD fee on top of everything. I refused delivery and ate the $80.00.
Although you might see a realised price as crazy to a keen buyer its reasonably acceptable extortion. Stop griping so smugly about "ebay madness" and be thankful you don't (have to) pay such prices.

The seller stated shipping to US only. 8/10 for the rant though...

It goes both ways. I just picked up an original Winchester 32WCF mold for $34 and change. It's in perfectly usable condition. Yeah, it's a single cavity, but it will do until the group buy comes in!

Fishhawk is right!

People get caught up in the auction/bidding frenzy and simply loose touch with reality.

It's a little bit like what happens to some people in a casino!

Maybe the buyer just didn't want to wait an indeterminate length of time for the mold. My own bator mold was ordered in early Feb. was shipped in July to an address that I had an item shipped to in a trade. It took a month, 3 phone calls and some e-mails to finally get it. I gave some thought to selling it after seeing that one sell, but I wouldn't go through the wait and hassel again for $99 and the cost of getting the replacement.

LOL. you guys are too much. As much as I hate to, I use feebay if there is something I just have to have, such as a brand new in the box RL450 in 45 ACP to replace the one stolen from my shed. I got it for $232.50 and was ecstatic to do so. If you can't find what you need on any other site, you have to do business with them even if you have to hold your nose while doing so. If you live in a firearms restricted 3rd world country and want to shoot your registered firearms at all, you have to use the internet and pay the piper for letting your government get away with their shenanigans. I have a brand new in the box Lyman 41032 2 cavity mould for the 41 magnum. Do I hear $250?

When someone bids against me with less than 5 transactions I quit bidding. I've found that these people will win what ever the price. Just last week I bid on a Thumblers Tumblers 15 lb polisher. They sell new for $135. This bidder that started to bid against me was new with a 1 for feedback. I stopped my bid at $85. He paid $138 to win, unreal!!!

Many times that is the same guy selling ,just bidding up item. Feebay dont have a way to check them out and dont care because they used to do it till they got sued. I found the best way is to snipe it in last 3 sec. That way no one can get another bid in. There is a couple of guys on here that are very good also LOL

It ain't just e-bay people go stupid on when they want a "bargin". All of the found property handed to police stations in Queensland is usually sold off in auction (never any guns, policy is to destroy them, but lots of old bikes, sometimes there is jewlery, etc.). I watched 2 idiots bidding on a Mountain Bike. In the end, the "winner" paid nearly $200.00. It was a Repco that you could have gotten from Big W for less than $150.00 (there was a Big W only a couple of miles away in a shopping center, too). Some of these bikes were total rubbish and people still paid more than $150.00 for them. If they were Cannondale racing bikes, then I could see a reason to pay up (good quality and a difficult brand to get in regional areas), BUT THEY WERE COMPLETE RUBBISH.

TAWILDCATT: the mold is sold by Midsouth and currently list price is $18.08. By the time I spent money for something extra to meet the minimum and the freight it cost about $36. They currently list it as "on order", which means when they have the number of orders accumulated that they need for a group order they will order it from Lee and then wait until it comes up for production.

The Lee 22 Bator was on my wish list for some time, then about 3 weeks ago I logged in and found the mold in stock and placed my order. Looks like I should have ordered a few more. [smilie=1:

Ebay comes in handy for me at times. Nothing like selling a set of old Lyman Tru-Lock (26mm) rings for over $100! Not only did I sell one set for that price, I offered another set to the #2 bidder, and he bought em! Funny part of the whole thing is that the winning bidder was building a Model 70 magnum for elk hunting, he had a Lyman Alaskan and assumed 26mm was the right size for that scope. When I found that out I told him I already shipped them. That same buyer paid around $170 later for an all steel Stith mount from me for his Alaskan equipped Model 70. I think his Model 70 was also know as an Alaskan.

Here's another one that amazed me. I suppose it may have some collector value but it seems to me one could get a custom mold maker to produce the same design in a 2 cavity for less. Like has been said "Stupid is as stupid does!"

Was wasting time yesterday perusing the molds list on evil-bay. Came on a guy listing empty LEE mold boxes for $4.99 starting bid? A friend of mine sold a full box of Hornady gas checks in 7mm for $25.oo and $7.oo shipping. You can get the same checks from Midsouth for $24.85 and maybe less shipping. What did P.T. Here's a couple to laugh At:

Lyman single cavity 35793 sold for $114.49 plus shipping! This is that pointed semi wadcutter made for the 38 special and .357. Gosh wonder what a Lee 6 banger from the group buy will nab?

Lyman 429421 HP single cavity: $133.01 plus shipping! Looked Like an after market HP job to boot!

And yet shortly after these were "won" I bid on an old Lyman 35864 and "won" it for $34.66 and shipping!

I agree that some of the bidders are just uninformed! Thats the only rational explanation for some of the prices I see being paid.

My limit for the old 38 S&W mold was $40.00 after that I wasn't intrested any more!

Watching evil bay is a lot like people watching at the mall or beach you'll always see something interesting!

I've got two of the ingot moulds with the backwards 'N'.
Now I got to decide whether it is wrong to take advantage of ignorant people, or stupid to not take advantage of the opportunity.
Maybe it would be OK if I only charged half price.:)
