Hi, i have this pistol since 1987 and havenīt shot it for a long time.Planning to do this again soon. I have a TC maxi ball mould and my concern is what would it be the maximum safe load in this pistol with said bullet?
Thanks, regards, Nicioli

Patriots were only intended for a patched round ball with a maximum charge of 30 grs of 3fg

Still in all, that ain't SHABBY. A 140 gr. (-ish) ball impelled by 30 grains of FFFg is nothing to sneeze at. I'M not stepping out in front of one!

The Patriot pistol manual lists a max. load of 35 grains of 2F powder and it's only recommended to load it with a patched round ball. --->>> http://www.tiropratico.com/manuali-pdf/T/Thompson-Center_Patriot_Supplement.pdf

Mine shoots terrible above 20 gr. At 20 gr and down to 15 it's a one hole shooter at 25 yards off a rest. No point trying to load one up hot. I did have a smoothbore 50 cal barrel on it for a time, 50 gr. of powder and 3/4 oz shot cracked the stock. I wouldn't recommend that.

I was shooting against one last year and he was using only 18 grains 3F with a tight patched ball started with a mallet. He was good, clover leaf at 25 yards off hand. Needless to say he shot my pants off. LOL
