OK I went out to the Gun club after hunting Tree Rats

I needed to zero a new scope on the 25 Savage 25 Hornet

Well there was a couple of guys getting ready for deer season
Shooting 5 factory slugs to check if they could hit anything

But the guy next to me was blasting away with a AR15 in 223
While we waited to go down range to change targets , we talked
He was complaining about the price of ammo

Long story short a Palmetto State Armory 16" complete upper in 300 Blackout ended up going home with me
He claimed to have only shot 10 boxes of factory ammo out of it , he gave me the brass
But for what I , I can clean it and Smile [smilie=l:

My question , how do the 1/8 twist barrels do with lite weight cast bullets ?

As I am thinking of adding a adjustable gas block
So I can shoot it without chasing brass as I plan on adding a suppressor
But for grins would a 100 gr or so cast bullet stabilize at subsonic speed ?

As I would think it would be fun stalking squirrel with the rifle

No I don't need another squirrel rifle
But why pass up another chance to work up loads and use them

Thanks
John

Short answer, yes. I will be trying 100 gr cast boolits soon in my blk out and 30 carbine soon. I shoot 110gr 30 carbine fmj bullets in my blk out all the time. the fast twist of the blk out will stabilize most all boolits from subs to supers. The lee 155gr 7.62 boolit is my favorite. 15.5 gr of lil gun will crono 1953 fps in my rifles.

dont know about 100s but even my 300 bo pistols stabilize 130 cast. My ruger american has no problem shooting 2 inch groups at a 100 yard with the 130 rcbs and 4.5 grains of unique. Never tried it in the ars because it obviously wont run the action. but at supersonic speeds they all run it and shoot great.

Hornady half jackets with pistol powder run great from my 10' 1:8. Won't cycle though. Same as the 1:10 carbine. If you can push FAST with H110 or the like they will cycle.

As others probably said, yes it will stabilize, no way you're getting it to cycle with less than maybe 185 gr. I run a 10.5", so no direct experience with a 16". Low weight pills kind of defy the purpose of the Blackout. Especially if running a can. I keep meaning to add a .300 Blk bolt gun to the collection.

I shoot the Berry Bullet — swagged and plated — 30-30 bullet in my Ruger American Ranch — 1/7 twist — and it shoots pretty well from 1000fps to 1850fps. They are cheap Bullets, and I get 1moa out of them at 1850 FPS. Accuracy does drop off to that of an average 38Special revolver as the load is reduced.

Ya cannot over stabilize a bullet!!!

But ya CAN over rotate it!!

Im my experience cast are ok but dont push to hard your spinni g them @ extreamly high rotation and generally cast dosent like that.

I lile that lee :12-1552R with 15.3g 3031 @ almost 1500 fps.

It's strange one of the newest rounds works so well with a powder made in 1934. I use 3031 with a 170 grain bullet works great at 100 yards.

I have a pair of PSA 16" uppers in 300 Black Out.Both have been 100 percent reliable with 15 grains of IMR-4227 under gas checked and powder coated Lee C312-155-2R and Lee C312-160-2Rs. Carbine buffer and standard carbine length gas block.

I don't see any reason to change the load because both bullets shoot within 2 MOAs, printing very close to factory 150 grain fusions. Nothing but lots of fun.
