was just looking through the Lyman web site
new 4 cavity mold $141.95. I sure do hope the new molds they are selling don't drop undersize bullets. I guess I been asleep at the wheel for years I think last time I looked they were something like $80

That's about $14 more then just 3yrs ago.
They seem to introduce new products every year.

But just let the Casting line stumble along with no quality control.

No wonder all the new small shops are "eating their lunch".

There's no way I would buy a new Lyman four cavity mold.

It's too much of a crap shoot. I'd rather buy from NOE or MP or Arsenal, or Accurate.

Fingers, Lyman bought Ideal Bullet Molds and used the Ideal cherries marked Lyman. They are on eBay and are quality molds. Today’s Lymans are inferior. I buy Accurate Molds - quality

Keep a eye on ebay.
You can find good deals on gently used and discontinued molds.

When I bought back my old .38 wadcutter S&W model 52, I researched and found the all time
favorite and prize winning DEWC mold for them was discontinued 20-odd years ago.

I found one on ebay, with handles, and the cardboard box it came in on 'buy it now' for $60.
If it had been used, it looked like about a pound of Lead had gone through it.
That's about half what a new 2 cavity one and handles cost now.

I'm aware of that. Go back and read my post.

Hard pass on that nonsense.

For that money, get a custom made Accurate mold.

Attitudes like this caused Lyman to quit sponsoring us. How will we ever get along without them? LOL

With all the custom mould companies I would skip Lyman, RCBS and Saeco. I have many of their older moulds and their great but the new Aluminum moulds cost way less and work just as well.

Saeco and RCBS molds are still very good molds.

I have about 12 RCBS and Saeco moulds, but the quality to is not any better than the new aluminum moulds.

My recent RCBS molds have been good. They also adjusted a mold I bought used.

If it is modern Lyman, you might get it up to nominal bore size- if you pressure cast with straight linotype. I almost got my last 311-something mold up to .3085 after lapping. I bought it for a .3110" bore rifle!

I have never had an issue with an old Ideal or older Lyman mold - at least the older Lymans, if they dropped undersize were marked with a "U", Today? I'll go for a good NOE, Accurate, etc. before I will waste $$ on a new Lyman. IMHO

I agree about the current mold makers. MP, Accurate and NOE are tops in my book. I still lurk ebay for vintage RCBS and Lyman/Ideal if I find a good deal.
