A couple of years ago I went to an estate sale at Hensley & Gibbs shop in Murphy, Oregon.
I live 40 minutes away.
I was told they had quite a library and the books were $2 each. Yes $2 each.
I was digging around and found a number of old Lyman loading manuals I was interested in.
There was a copy of Elmer Keiths "Sixguns".
I already had a copy but for $2 I though, what the heck, I`ll take this because i knew it was worth more than that.
When I got home, I opened it and found a it was signed by Elmer.
The inscription read " To Hensley and Gibbs, With all best wishes Elmer Keith Salmon, Idaho Oct 25, 1981.
This was in Elmers own handwriting

Nice find! A local gun shop has an O3A3 with Elmer's inspection mark. Priced too high, I won't pay an extra $1000 for a stamp.

You have to be joking. You have over 2,000 posts on a cast boolit and shooting site and have never read "Sixguns"? My poor slow child, you have to be joking.

Just informational-- I know that there's some kidding going on here-- but I read "Sixguns" many years ago, and just finally bought a copy a couple of years back. The reprints aren't that hard to find, and not too expensive. It's a great book, and Elmer was a knowledgeable guy, but like Tazman pointed out a day or two ago in another thread, things have changed with advances in firearms and ammo technology, and some of what Elmer wrote is a little obsolete-- and today his opinions and findings might be a bit different. It's still a good read though.

I made a similar find- was driving thru New Meadows, ID and saw a sign for the library book sale in progress. Picked up a copy of "Sixguns", in excellent condition with dustcover for fifty cents!

I wish someone would put out "Hell I was There" on Kindle. Prices for the book itself are outrageous. I checked a copy out of the public library and it too was signed by Elmer Keith. I was going to point that out to the library staff, but I figured they wouldn't care. Fascinating book, I loved it.

I have read "Hell I Was There" but don`t own a copy.
I would trade my extra unsigned copy of "Sixguns for a copy of "Hell I was There"
Mine is in excellent shape with dust cover and would expect the same....dale
