A little while back I have a problem with a burner not turning off.
Electric range.
Found today that the problem is back again.
My hand is fine. No skin burned.
Unplugged it and pulled out the burner.
I changed the switch in May, so unless the new switch has gone bad, something else is wrong.
Warranty is of course over. Only one year.
Repair man coming next Tuesday.
Whirlpool, as basic as I could find.
Only the oven is computer.
I did a search and found that they are having a recall on the glass top range.
Same problem I'm having.
Burner on, no light on.
It has a Designed, engineered, assembled in the USA sticker on it.
Parts probably made in china.

I think I should report this problem.
Could start a fire.
Who would I report it to????

Both the retailer where you purchased it and the manufacturer.
What is the model number on that unit?

Many ranges are made by the same company. Ours recently had an eye staying on due to a stuck relay on the element control board. If you can get to the knob that controls the element, check and see if there is a control board. If so, there should be 2 black clocks on it. Those would be the relays that control the high and low elements. One is probably stuck.
post a pic.
I replaced the 2 on our stove for $13.00.
John

ETA... Our range also had some wiring issues that caused an eye to come on all the time other than the relay. Manufacturing defect.

The switch for the burner is a rotary knob.
Doesn't look like it's wired into the oven, which has a board.
Not a picture of the original switch.

I switched the burner and it's back to normal.
But I can't see how the burner could be the problem.
I turned it on till it got hot, and turned it off.
It cooled down to same as the others.
Strange thing is we never use the rear burners.

Same problem here, lets see if l can post a picture, its failure of the electronics ( fail on, should be fail off) . Call WP, they'll send a board. It's easy to change but they can do it too.

I was playing with it a little more.
I found that if I have the oven on, that one burner will get hot.
Other three are cool to the touch.
So it could be the control board.

Played wit it again.
From new it took forever to boil a pot of water.
Repair guy came out and said that it was normal.
Something about the new type of burner required by law.
gooberment again screwing with a good thing.
I found that when the over was turned off, the burner would stay on.
When I removed the burner, the other three burners got red hot on high.
They never did that before.
It has to be something with the wiring.
Repair guy is suppose to come Tuesday, but I may cancel it.
Going to try and see if whirlpool will help with it.If not I'll just leave the burner out.

I'm on the phone with whirlpool waiting.
Hope they cover it under somekind of warranty.
It's less than two years old.
It was a cheap one because I was looking for something without a computer in it.
This is the best I could find.

The irony is you are posting the problem and concern via a computer.

Yep!!!!
I started with the phone call, but the wait was 74 minutes.
I stayed on the phone and went to their chat line.
Wait was 25 minutes.
Chat came on first.
Went back and forth, but they wanted my phone number.
Not really sure about giving it, but finally did.
I hung up the phone.
She called right away, and forwarded me to another department.
Wait time was around 15 minutes.
The guy was great.
Listened to the problem, and what I noticed.
Got some information and set up an appointment for tomorrow.
No charge. They will cover the inspection, parts and labor.
The wait was frustrating, but I was treated well.
We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Well I got a call for the repair man.
That can't make it today.
Soonest will be Thursday.
So I plugged the range back in without the burner.
That is how business is done here, so normal.

So I'm still waiting for them to come.
Called the main branch, lower 48, and they said they are having problems with the phone and appointment system in hawaii.
She set up next Thursday the 8th.
Hope they show up this time.
I pulled out the burner, just to be safe, so we could use the stove.

Paradise isn't. Hope he fixes your problem. I cannot take service like that I would have brought the stove back to the seller and dumped it in front of the entry door myself.

I hate sellers with no help. Good luck hope you get it resolved.
