Howdy neighbors,

I recently bought a Savage 219 in 22 Hornet. I didn't really need it but the price was too good to pass up.

It is drilled and tapped on the left side with two 10-32 holes about 2 3/8" C-C. My Googling leads me to believe that the holes are for a Weaver "T" mount.

If that is so then which one do I need? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

According to Brownell's website, you need a #2 Weaver side mount base. Then you also need the special scope rings to go on it. I couldn't find the ring set on their website, not saying its not there, just that I couldn't find it.

I'll try to dig mine out tonight to look at what I have on mine. Be advised the scope isn't directly over the bore, unless mine was drilled by an idiot, which isn't outside the realm of possibilities.

Some where on the net is a listing of which top mount Weaver bases will work on the Savage Model 219, I would have gone that route if it weren't for the four honking big holes already there.

I still might if the butt ugliness of the side mount keeps bothering me, but I have a drill jig and a drill press just sitting around doing nothing too.

Good Luck,

Robert

Mk42gunner, Like you I thought that side mount looks rather uncouth when I bought my 219 last year. But, I kept it out where I could see it for a few weeks and it has grown on me. I really like it now.
They tell me that Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. After admiring it for a few weeks I rather like the side mount, and it is "vintage" like the rifle.

Mine is set up with the side mount. I put a small 4x Burris on it. Love that combination for squirrel hunting using cast bullets.

Sorry I didn't get around to looking today; I had a slight problem with the brakes on my truck that I had to sort out, now my back is bothering me.

Will report back tomorrow.

The ring fixture on mine is marked as follows:
WEAVER
SIDE-TH

I'm guessing the H is for high, with a 3-9x40 Tasco mounted it comfortably clears the rear sight.

The base is a #2.

Hope this helps,

Robert
