Knowing Bill Ruger's love for the model 99 Savage, I decided about 20 years ago I'd make a 96 try look like one. I bought a new stock and put the original away. This was one of my early goes at shaping and finishing gun stocks. It shoots quite well, but I stay away from full power loads. Those who have shot these know for how light they are there's quite a jump n kick to these. Besides, the stocks have a little reputation for cracking anyway. Mostly been shot with 240 cast and Unique.

The hammerless design and rotary magazine makes a nice lever, for both brands.

Yep - I hated the non-Walnut wood that Ruger stocked their Model 96/44, 96/22, and 99/44 Deerfield carbines with.

I sold my Marlin 1894 model in 44 MAG because it would not shoot the heavy weights accurately. My Ruger 96 was purchased and because of its faster twist rate, it meets my needs. The 270 grain Speer bullet is my favorite for hunting wild hogs here in Florida and it does the job exceptionally well!

Sure wish Ruger would have chambered these in .357 Mag...

Big fan of the 96/44.

Shot many hogs with mine.

The 96/44 might be able to be re-barreled with a .357 barrel meant for a Ruger 77/357 bolt gun and a like 77/357 magazine - just food for thought, mind you...…..

Local guy is advertising a 96/44 new in the box for over $1,000.00 and it is still just sitting on the list(the last time I looked). Personally I can't see it being worth that much but then I limit any purchase of firearms to 800 to 900 dollars; max. I kept waiting on the production of a .357 magnum myself but it never happened. I am frugal to the point of being cheap. james

My Ruger 96/22 was the only 22cal. I kept when 22 rounds became so hard to find in the last shortage. Of the many calibers I own the 22 is the only one I don't-can't reload. Gp

I often wondered about having this one in 357 Bain and Davis. Probably more work than worth, but a powerful combo. Magazine is a limiter with certain OAL in rounds developed, but maybe fun.
