best bullet for 308 MX?

I've been thinking about cast loads for 308 marlin express but the neck on the shell is so short the gas check would be well into the case with the both the lee 150 and 170. plus if I'm going to load cast in 308mx I would want to take full advantage over the higher velocity otherwise might as well be shooting a 30-30

I wouldn't worry about the bullet base below the neck. It was never a problem when I loaded for .300 Savage with cast, and that's a short neck. Cast your bullets hard if you want >30-30 speeds.
