Went and picked up my .45-70 buffalo classic from the dealer yesterday. the stocks are impressive given that its an H&R. Haven't shot it yet and really don't have the proper components yet. I have come hand-me-down cases of dubious quality and a beagled RCBS .45 long colt mould. Too cold to go shoot outside anyway....I can make due with 250gr SWCs over light Promo charges for now.[smilie=w:

They are good guns. My friends shoots PP or GG boolits very well over Goex Cart.

You will need a bullet diameter of .458", the 45 Colt is probably .452-.454. Should be a fun gun to shoot. I had one of the old H&Rs about 35 years back that was in 45-70.

I have one in 38-55 which shoots well with Lee's 250 gr. My stock came, I think,
from a blank acquired from Home Depot. I don't have the deluxe pressure treated type. Yours is exhibition grade.

Looks good! mine likes the LEE 405 HB no need to size just roll them in LLA and shoot.
Send me your address and I will send you a dozen or so.

The bore is .4581 All I gots right now is .455 so I shoots .455 I have sample boolits coming so I can decide an mould(s) to get. The cases I have are sketchy anyway...don't want to hot rod heavier boolits....at least I culled the balloon head ones!

I have molds for 457122-HP (330gr), 457191 (300gr) , Lee 457-340 if you are looking for some to try.

I have a ratty extra copy of 457191 (DC, undersized, out of round) I'd let go cheap if you want to play with it. With some beagling I can get one of the cavities to drop reasonable sized bullets

I'm intrested in the mould for sale as well as the other moulds for sampling, I'm going to have to wait until january to fiddle with it though. Works rather crazy at the moment.

For best results, your bullet should be bore dia. or .001 bigger. Too small a bullet may cause blow by and leading. Either way, your gunna love that .45-70. I've had a couple dozen and will never be without at least one! Good shooting.

All I can say is for plinking don't get the 500 grain Lee Spitzer mold. It is a thumper. I have a Marlin 1895 and an Encore barrel.

I have some #457125 30-1 @ 525 gr sitting around that havn't gone back in the pot yet .
I switched to 550gr bullets & was just saving them for fire forming if some of those would help

You and I are going to have a long range/peep sight plinking contest first thing next spring. My 38-55 load is already worked up.

Try about 25-30 grains of accurate arms 5744 with that heavy bullet. Mild and enjoyable to shoot. For a hotter load I use 45 grs. 2495 behind my 475 Gr. WFN plain base. About 1,500 FPS.

the only down fall for the price is the sights mine came with a .585 height site on the front so rear sight is jacked all the way up for 1325FPS load at 100 Yrds . I load 60 grs. swiss 1.5 with a 500Gr lee bullet mould it drops at 495 grs .459, 20-1 . The rifle shoots good groups but you'll need to re-sight it .to get any range out of her. I've work up good groups, now just have to work out the the sight picture. But I really like the rifle.

I noticed the front was rather high. I'll figure something out. I'm stuck on the 25yds indoor range till spring anyway.
