I was loading some 6.8’s today and found I have 2 different primer sizes. I was using Remington 9 1/2 and I was using IMR 3031. I called Sierra and asked about the load and he said I couldn’t use the same load with the small rifle primer. Any suggestions as to what I should use. Can’t find any info on 6.8 with srp.

Start low work up .
I run 23.3 H332 in FC SRP brass for gas guns with the NOE 279-124 and a #41.

In Spec 2 chambers I'm told that it's run a little hotter with FC and Starline . Just work the data up per case type .

You might try small rifle magnum primers. IIRC several of the long range shooters around here use them in the larger capacity cases (6.5's and .308). Either std or magnum SR should have a load workup, not just put in the same load you use with LR primers. Just a safety thing, especially if you are shooting max loads.

H322 and a Sierra or Hornady 110-115 bullet works for me

The 6.8 is “the little engine that could” for my cousin on our lease. He’s got a streak of one shot kills on coyote, hog, and deer that is impressive. I’d wager that it would be good with cast as well. If AR universe returns to normal I’ve got a complete lower waiting..........

NOE 279-124 , FC brass , #41 , H322 , 10x in 16" carbine gas are good . H4198 is better in rifle length . 22-2300 fps in a 20" rifle gas .

The 27-130 fp was also good but mine weighed 140 gr and couldn't get me where I needed to go .

I've got a few grandkids that are almost getting ready for their first big game rifles.
I was thinking that the 6.8 would make a great kids deer gun. I'd like to find a couple bolt actions in that caliber, but I'm not seeing anything available. I think the little CZ would be great, or maybe a Ruger Ranch Rifle???

all the fc 6.8 brass I have was primed with federal ar primers which are few are few and far between these days I just use cci 41's because I have some right now, with 29gr 8208 works well with 115's. my alternate primer would be whatever sr primers I have on hand except Remington 61/2

The easiest way ..........
Buy 22 Nosler brass .
6.8 SPC dies .
223 Savage Axis
6.8 barrel swap .
The 22 Nosler is 6.8 brass with a rebated rim to share the 223 rim .
Load with 6.8 data .
It's the hard way around but the 6.8 PTG bolt head for Savage was $115 several years ago . There were only a few rifles built for it . It's close for a x39 , 35 Rem , Carcano or 38/357 bolt face . The 1-11 twist will be best unless you're going 150+ or subs .
Ask I have information and particulars .

YEs there are small & large primed brass. I went simple & just bought S&B ammo when it was cheap & shoot that brass. I do have a PC cast bullet load that makes a decent plinker out to 200y. I like the round, intended it for hog hunting but havent gotten out east to give it a go.
