Just had Bob Hoyt make me a 58 caliber barrel.I have 69 thru 45 caliber rifles except 58, now if someone has a pet load let me know. I have .018 pillow ticking and 567,570 and 575 round ball moulds so you can see I've been expecting to get one. Any help would be appreciated.

Mister Hoyt doesn't have a web page or a presence on forums.
The best way I know to communicate with him is to write a letter expressing precisely what you want, including a self addressed and stamped envelope for his reply.

My Hoyt rebored TC Renegade 58 works really well with .565" balls, denim patch, and 100 grains of my homemade powder. I tried bigger balls with thinner patches and not as good. One hole at 50 yards, palm size groups at 100, mainly due to my eyes. Some day I'll get to go chase a deer with it!

Mine does good with 70gr Pyro RS and a 575 RB. I think mine has a 1-60 twist. It's a Cabelas Hawken. Also does good with a 510gr minie and 80gr Pyro. Minute of deer at 100y. The two loads shot same point of aim.

One of the problems with recommending loads for the 58s is the variability of the bore diameters compared to the 45, 50, & 54 calibers. I have 4 different .58 cal rifles and at least two, maybe 3 different bore diameters. The military repros are a bit closer to each other (Zoli Zouave, "Buffalo Hunter" and an Enfield Musketoon). The St. Louis Hawken is larger than the others and needs an oversize minie. For the Zouave I use a 575213-"Old Style" 460gr minie over 90grs Goex FFFg. The Musketoon likes 90grs FFg under the 577611 thick skirted 530gr minie. Both lubed with beeswax & deer tallow 50/50 mix as cast. I have never recovered a bullet on the two deer and one elk I have killed. I hit a large mule deer doe facing me in the shoulder and the minie exited the opposite ham (passing diagonally the full length of the deer). It hardly ruined 2 ounces of meat. On the cow elk the minie went through both shoulder blades, clipping the spine and aorta on the way through. I sight them in for 5" high@ 50 yards so they will be right on at 100. I use musket caps.
