I have no need for it, so just passing this along. Yesterday, I was in Greentop Hunting and Fishing in Ashland, Virginia. They always have a nice selection of used rifles and a few classics, so I like to browse. To my surprise they had a C. Sharps M1874 Hartford model on the rack. It was a .45-110. It looked in excellent shape. The price tag was $1999.00. That seemed pretty good. Especially since right next to it was a Pedersoli Sharps in .45-70 for about the same price.

Yep I saw it also, its the one that someone had listed on gun broker for a way over retail price I guess they sold it or traded it off. I played with the idea of getting it and having Jessie Ocopaugh turn it into a .50-70

If it had been a 50-70, I would have brought it home!

Wow, that does sound like a deal!

I started hanging out and buying stuff at GreenTop back in 1975!

Last time I was visiting in Richmond (about a year ago) I stopped in and dang if there wasn't at least one fellow working there who worked there back in the mid 70s! Crazy!

Somebody needs to go buy that Sharps!

I know and I'm thinking hard about it. Iv'e got a Remington #1 roller navy model in .50-70 that's fun to shoot but the military sights just don't let me see its full accuracy capabilities that's why I want a 74 in .50-70 Iv'e got a #5 in 7mm with the bayonet that I'm thinking about using for trade bait and I called down there this afternoon to see if I could work a deal but the guys I normally deal with were out so I'll pick up the trail in the morning and see what happens.

Good luck with it. I have a NY state 50-70 roller. It's a good shooter, but the sights are a limitation.

I was back at Greentop again yesterday. That Shiloh is still there, so is he Pedersoli for the same price. The Shiloh just has standard barrel sights. The Pedersoli is a heavy 1/2 round barreled target model with Soule tang sight. It is a very nice rifle too. I was tempted, but walked away with just some powder and primers. I wish someone would buy them and remove the temptation!

Thats a fair price but you will be in for a surprise when you try to find 45-110 cases,,,!!!

i'd bet the pedersoli was not a .45-110, hah!

imho, once you get past a .45-90 it becomes more bragging rights than practicality for the average shooter.

right now the best value in a .45-70 is a pedersoli sharps offered thru DGW, $1225. i've had many pedersolis and all were quite worthy guns.

I put buffington sights on my NY roller 50-70 and sights work well and it's like a period correct creedmore rifle that the poor man rifle competed with.

How hard was that to do? Any modifications required?

That's a good price for a C. Sharps, I traded for a used one about 2 years ago that was about the same price. Mine is a real beauty with AAA fancy wood and excellent workmanship!

Send it to JES and get it rebored/chambered in 50-70 (or 50-90!!)

That was my plan but Iv'e never had a c.sharps shoot as well as a shiloh so I didn't follow through with the idea.
Not wanting to make a very expensive mistake.
