Digging through things, I found some mismatched/ mixed mystery and factory 30-30 loads. So, I drove the mule up close to the backstop and just fired them from the hip from my 94 38-55. They blew out beautifully and i will use these short cases for round ball or shot loads. Saves my good brass for the real deal. Dumb but safe things to do in the heat[emoji41].https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200814/20cef8ddb6fb15f857756e131141a3d4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200814/3494ffb8a9b123d441331d1ac6202019.jpg

I'm surprised the neck didn't split, last time I did something like this the neck split, had a 7mm Mauser and a 6.5x54 out and the range. Touched off one of the 6.5's off in the 7mm inadvertently, sounded funny but hit what I was aiming at.

Just surprised when I opened the bolt and a split neck case came out. That's when the little light bulb came on. A very little light bulb that day.

Used to make 38-55 out of 30-30 but did the traditional 10 grs. unique with toilet paper and corn meal.

The wife always knew when I made a new batch of brass, lots of confetti in the backyard.

This is my method for fireforming 30-30 brass to 375 Win.
I seem to get a slightly longer case when filling with Grits to blow the shoulder and neck out vs just fireforming.

I did this mainly to be rid of those mystery 30-30 loads safely and perhaps gain some use for the brass. I expected some to crack a neck, but none did. Some of those loads sounded Hot even though no bore seal was happening- probably trace back to the 80s when my brother loaded his Contender stupid hot.
I have used Malt O Meal for forming and it worked with the added bonus of scrubbing the bore;-)!
Roy Ellis- thank you for the offer- I’ll be in touch!

Don't do this with cast loads. I fire formed about 100 350 Rem Mag out to 45 cal once. I ended up with a badly leaded barrel. Took me days to clean it all out. That 45 caliber bore went from 45 to 35 by the time I was done. lucky to notice it before firing a proper load trough it.

I believe I made some just by running them thru my .375 Win depriming die. Not sure if I had a tapered expander ball in the die.

Oh my, the flaming bullet skidding from wall to wall- I’ll bet it did lead up some.

I threw the flyer into the bullseye. But, I like 5 of 6 in the same hole at 10 yards from a field sitting position! If the next group is this good winner winner squirrel dinner. I can't crimp the shorter brass so I'm loading them single shot.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200816/fb9d3ddb59a20ddcdf55fad54deb313a.jpg
